Title: Looks like fishing season is over - permanently
Post by: Nero on July 26, 2009, 09:13:12 PM
Hey guys.
Now this falls into the category of 'T effects that I don't know whether to be pleased or displeased with'. Like the no crying effect, I don't know whether the no fish effect is good or bad. It just is. I thought it might be a fluke or just my imagination, but no. Now my parts just smell like any other guy's.
The jury's still out on whether a fishless river is good or bad. But sadly or happily, there's no more fish.

               (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm1.static.flickr.com%2F126%2F379473207_c5cb7cee73_t.jpg&hash=737803f021ad49288067782cfb64ac27d15e6b2b)

Anybody else notice this strange phenomenon?

Yup, guys and girls smell very different.

Dogs notice it readily.

My nether regions have never come off as fishy to me. When I do notice a smell, oddly enough it reminds me of potatoes.

What does it smell like now, if you could describe it?

Like flesh. Kind of hammy.

Huh, that's wierd.

I don't want to gross you out, but my male genitals kinda smell like sweat and the weak smell of old bloody bandaids.

Ham, huh? I wouldn't describe it as that...

... something in my soul just jumped for joy.

Something else to (possibly) look forward to at some point.

Either way, I don't mind either of those smells. Works for me.

Yes, you get a different stink.  Nice thing about this is that animals usually quit outing you as female.

Well, many dogs/cats only like/dislike men or women.  I've seen many posts where early in transition transpeople feel their cover has nearly been blown by a dog who hates men, etc.

Lol, I've had so many dogs who hate men LOVE me for some odd reason. Maybe I don't smell like one?

i do have that fishy smell. if you don't shave your pubic hair, that smell gets gets trapped in easily, but goes away when you wash it. i don't think it stinks, it's just an odor to me. i heard that this smell is for sexual attraction purposes.

Sexual attraction purposes?  More like sexual repulsion...  at least 'til she showers.

Yes, I noticed that my nether-regions now smell different.  Glad about that.  I didn't like the previous 'fish' smell at all.  That said, the current smell (still trying to figure out what it most resembles) isn't exactly delicious either, but... it doesn't scream 'female,' so I'll take it.

I'd say fishless is good. Something to look forward to for me anyways. I don't really think I smell like fish but what would I know. Women do have a nice "musky" smell though that's hard to describe.

Your body secretions will smell like your dominant hormones though since they eventually are waste. Women usually secrete estrogen in urine and males secrete T is sweat, saliva, and pretty much everywhere else.

Yeah that smell that just seeps out... Sorry for that horrible term. There are actual commercials for products that mask that odor so you aren't uncomfortable when you go out... Which confuses me. I've never smelled any of that unless someone actually had their pants off. Even then, half the time you need your face close to smell it. And I highly doubt people walk around with their faces constantly in someones crotch. Funny image though...

Oh I can't stand that strong "fishy" smell.  It varies from individual to individual and some poor girls are cursed.  As was said, it's not solely a hygiene issue  - although poor personal hygiene certainly can make it worse.  You only know when you get close enough (same applies to rimming).

Happily not a concern for me any more, what with my gf being non-op.  I don't miss the pussy smell at all...not sure how I'd feel about going back, to be honest.

I'm sure it's possible.  Sufficiently poor hygiene or an unfortunate yeast infection could turn any hairy clam into a grilled cheese sandwich with extra anchovy!

Hair is a huge, huge factor. I've had extensive laser hair removal and I have very little smell in general. I *think* my scent has changed some since I got on spiro, but it's hard to say.

If you don't like the way something smells, shave/wax/laser it and wash it every day see how that goes. Scent really is a sexual factor though. I am not a big fan of the down below on women anymore, but the scent of the armpit is actually something I've really liked on women dating back to my first relationship. My ex and I caught a Discovery special about attraction and it covered how important the armpits can be. Though, yes, it's weird to go sniffing under your partner's arm for arousal.

For genitals, cotton underwear certainly helps more than microfiber or nylon. It's much more breathable.

It's weird, but, I actually used to really like the way I smelled below as a teenager... I don't smell that way anymore. I guess I could go find a boy who does.

I don't understand why we evolved the fishy smell, it's really not attractive. Maybe primitive humans used women as scent traps to catch animals or something.

Interesting, In Aus you can bait yabby traps with soap or fish. Both seem to be as succesful. Now the definite expt need a volunteer and a control. Finewine you are the control - I need to smell fish for the positive, volunteers please.

Mmmm

I thought this thread was going to be about ... well, fishing. I was imagining some horror story that left you unable to fish for the rest of the season!

But, ah, on this topic... there's a definite difference, but I don't remember what the smell was beforehand.

I do know that those 'cum trees' smell a lot more familiar. (If that sounds weird, I mean the ginko tree I think... they seriously smell like that in the spring/early summer. Strongly.) Before any of these changes from T I just called them cum trees because according to everyone else that's what they smelled like. Now it's not so much through secondhand knowledge, haha.

Lol.  My mom has one of those in her back yard.  The fruit smells like dog poop when you step on them.   :eusa_sick:

Oddly I have a naturally musky smell to me- especially down there if I've been sweating. It's a smell I smell on guys more than women. The only time I smell fishy there is during that time of the month.

Semen and dog poop.

Why exactly do people plant something that smells like bestial-sodomy in their back yard?

Mine is sort of like this. I smell very much like the non-trans guys that I've been with. I smell male.

I have a strong sense of smell and react powerfully to pheromones, so it's sometimes maddening to smell like the object of my desire.

I wish my sense of smell were muted by the T, but so far nothing has changed.

Time for another shower!

Lol.  That's what my mom keeps asking! (The tree was there when she bought the house.)

Actually, as I recall, a long while back a bunch of Ginkos were given to the city of St Paul as a gift by the Chinese government.  Now, the city was smart enough to only plant the male ones, which don't produce stinky fruit, but I suspect it became fashionable to have a Ginko tree because of that, and the people who planted it probably didn't realize that there was a difference between male and female Ginko trees until it was too late.  I wonder if it's possible for a tree to have a sex change ...  :eusa_think:  :P

And so as not to totally hijack the thread ...  I was never fishy, other than briefly when I had a "non-specific" infection.  Otherwise I just smelled pleasantly musky.  Now there is a definite masculine odor.  I can actually still smell the old smell underneath, but with a strong overlay of sweaty guy.

:icon_eek:
These last two weeks I've noticed that I've become quite metallic. If I lick myself (like fingers) it's like licking a battery. Seriously. Has anyone else had this happen to them? If so, does it subside or die down?

I expect my body to do weird things since new hormones are being introduced and are "fighting with" the pre-existing hormones. I just didn't think I'd turn into a battery. ;)

Being a battery can't be all that bad. You can jump your own car now.
Maybe your body is hoarding iron. Periods are a great way to waste resources (especially iron).

Yes they are. Hmm. You may have a point. It is during that most wonderful time of the month. :P Plus, I got off of estrogen (which I've been on for 20+ years) about a week before starting T so I expected my hormones to be as balanced as an elephant on a tightrope.
