I was thinking about this when I read a forum post about employment and transitioning early vs. late and it got me to thinking...I put US Dollars just to keep consistency. Hope you are all doing well, Meghan
I put 5-10k, but since the investment I use to pay for things is volatile to say the least (price wise) I can only dream of having sold it at the right time instead of what I have left at current market price. (which as of this post, is about $4500)
prior to srs I had about 7k in stocks which i sold to fund my surgery. the remainder was obtained from selling my vw thing :-\ and some extra student loan money. I had just enough with the canadian/us dollar exchange rate to afford dr. Brassard about 15 k US $ at the time. not sure what the exchange rate is now..
Post op Im pretty much broke, with about 2k in credit card debt which isnt that bad considering the life changing surgery is done with. I have the rest of my life to make that money back and as a nurse it shouldn't take too long. I have no regrets and I consider it an investment in a happy future.
If I count the "official" point as the day I met my psychologist... I had 50 bucks.
Maybe a little over $1K, but I was in college at the time and had very little money to begin with anyway. All told, with scrapping by and taking a little from student loans, I was able to pay for transition. To date, it's cost me about $8K, including everything from clothes, legal fees, hormones, doctor visits, therapy, and orchiectomy.
When I started transition I had a little over $2000. Between clothes, legal costs, laser, makeover; it went quick. I have tried but failed to cash out my 401K. Because of the way it is setup, I can not even touch it until I am no longer with the company.
If I had not paid the ex for my trailer or helped out a friend with another, I would have had $40k. But I was not so smart in the CMOA department.
I would like to look into getting some money from my college for SRS, but they aren't so helpful as I would like.

Hmmm... this is a toughy.
How much did I eventually spend on transition in the first year or two? Or what did my bank statements reflect the day I popped the first pill?
..and ask me why I'm up at 4:30 a.m.
:(
I've spent just under $1500 on cloths and make-up thus far, and it's just the beginning, if I hate anything in this world it's money.
I said $5,000 but that's what I had when I left for Colorado. I had another $1,000 to live on for recovery. But I didn't really "transition" as such. I started living a double life in my teens and went full time at the same time as SRS.
I had nothing.
