Title: Medical cost
Post by: barbie on August 02, 2009, 06:47:06 AM
During this weekend, I got a flu, suffering from thyroiditis. Could not eat for one day. I slepf for 24 hours. Finally I went to an emergency room near my home, as it's Sunday. I got a shot and a Ringer for about 3 hours. the throat pain was finally relieved.

The total cost charged to me was ca. US$7. The doctor gave me a prescription. The charge for medicine to me was ca. US$1.

When I was in the U.S., my HMO would have charged me at leat $100 for visiting emergency room. And the prescription insurance also would have charged me the basic fee of $5 for any medicine.

I wondered how doctors in this country can earn money.

A problem of medical system in this country is that it would be very expensive for rare and serious diseases such as cancer. But for ordinary and minor diseases,  I am so happy that less than $10 can cover all of my regular medical problems.
