Title: Electrolysis pain on areas of the face
Post by: shanetastic on August 17, 2009, 06:51:52 PM
I was wondering if someone could be so kind as to perhaps outline the areas of the face and describe which are most painful in your experience?  I just had my third session today (doing hour long sessions) and it was more painful than the previous ones.

It got me to thinking, what are the most painful areas for electro?  Obvious I know is the upper lip, but I only have seriously about 20 hairs there because laser actually did help there amazingly, and thankfully.  Today she did the outer area of my chin, and has the center of my chin left to do, the only area of my body with a larger amount of hair as opposed to the other areas.

But what I want to ask really though is, how do you rate these areas for pain?

Sideburn area (goes about 2 inches down for me from the top)
The chin
The neck area (especially curious around the adams apple)
And of course, the upper lip.

I'm worried about the neck, as that's the next area she will be working on.  Despite me not having a lot of hair and being lucky, I still have some and the neck is the second worst place after my chin.  If anyone could give some insight that'd be great haha.

I've found upper lip and the back half of the jawline to be the most painful.

Be sure to hydrate.  Drink lots of non-caffeine, non-alcoholic liquid well before the session.  It does make a difference. ;)

I'll try that Kate thanks.

I have my next session Thursday so it'll be a good experimenting time.

I'm really dreading the Neck area the most, especially around the adams apple since that's where the majority of my hair is :/

Thanks for the replies!

its not that upper lip necessarily hurts a lot more
For me it was cause it went up my nose and into my tear ducts and made me teary eyed. I wasn't even crying either... I was in like a trance, and for some reason the pain was kind of fun on one setting before highest.

Maybe I'm just masochistic... Oh it hurt, I just don't know if I care, lol. Upper lip was certainly painful and unpleasant, but nothing to worry about... Just make sure you have some water and go really tired... It helps your mind to trance out.

Yeah my face pretty much looks disgusting after it for like a day but then it goes away.

I have hours upon hours left until to the upper lip but I'm not looking forward to that one haha.

Does advil or anything help if you take it before hand in combination with water?

Vicodin helps a whole lot, mix in one of those big prescription strength ibuprofens and yer set. Be careful about driving home though, maybe get a cab or a bus or something instead.

Another thought: A lot of my hair has been removed by the earlier sessions.  It occurred to me that the upper lip is still quite painful because there are still a lot of dark hairs there to absorb the energy.  So if you have a lot of hair in one area - like your adams apple, Shanetastic - you might find that area more painful. :P

Good luck.  Keep thinking about how wonderful it'll be when it's done. ;)

Thanks for the inspiring words Kate! :p

Now when we hit the adams apple next (only place on my neck with hair lol) I'll get to look forward to hours of pain! yay! haha.

I'm really hoping I can get away with clearing my whole face in like ~50ish hours because my hair is all scattered and never even came close to fully coming in.  But we'll see haha.
