Title: You May Want To Think Twice Before Moving To Alaska
Post by: Julie Marie on August 19, 2009, 10:47:48 AM
Anchorage is in the process of deciding if there will be anti-discrimination laws put on the books to protect LGBT folks.  It's caused quite a ruckus.  Patti Anker, a representative for Concerned Women for America (http://www.cwfa.org) said "Gays don't face discrimination (http://www.goodasyou.org/good_as_you/2009/07/gays-dont-face-discrimination-says-she-who-represents-gay-discriminatory-group.html)" because "Homosexuals have no immutable characteristics like skin color, no economic deprivation, no suffering from a long history of discrimination, and no political powerlessness."

Gee, really?

But what surprised me was radio host Eddie Burke boldly walked around in at the Anchorage Assembly meeting with a t-shirt that stated his feelings. You can see the pics HERE (http://www.themudflats.net/2009/06/24/anchorage-assembly-on-ordinance-64-round-iv-pictures/)

Make sure you read the comments below the pictures because one of the lines on Burke's t-shirt would be very embarrassing to him if he knew what it meant.  And there's also a comment about what most of the people in Alaska are really like.  Too bad people like Burke and those who call in to his show (Sarah Palin is one of them) support hatred so openly.

I for one find it hysterical that they all took up the term 'teabagging' for themselves.  Should have looked it up first.

I think this has been posted here before, but it's worth another look.  ;D

I've thought about moving to Alaska a few times. But then realized I'm already freezing my cute lil' butt off half the year

First of all Alaska is too far away from New York (LOL).

What was that guy on wearing that shirt? There are a lot of people who take up causes and chant mantras-and really don't have a clue as to what the issues are.

GAYS RECRUIT CHILDREN! Oh Really? Wonder who told the child that! A lie if there was one.

Gays recruit children? In who's fantasy land?  :P Gay folks don't promote or recruit. But they are accepting and supportive to those who are there and stand up for each other

Well, the shirt and the signs clearly show how smart they all are.
Misspellings, lies, and calling themselves names...

Hey, at least the DJ knows what he is.

Gays recruit Children!? Ummm... looks more like the "H8Rs" are doing the recruiting.

I have known a lot of gays and lesbians in my life and not a single one of them tried to convince me that being gay was the way. I HAVE on the other hand had MANY 'Christians' come to my door, stop me in the street/airport/school/malls/subways/restaurants/... (I think you get the message) to TELL me that I NEED to listen to them and I NEED to attend their church to be saved (without even asking what my religious beliefs/background is). Who is doing the recruiting?

I'm glad to call myself a Buddhist - we just accept everyone (well most Buddhists anyway - some still hate others). I have nothing against Christians, or any other religion. It is only those who are the extremists that hate anyone who is not their equal. I personally think all religions are, fundamentally, good and have a lot of positive teachings.

Why am I blathering about religion? Toss the "teabagger rascist" into the Pugent Sound in the winter.

I've BEEN to Alaska, and have thought about it ("Gee, it's got pretty mountains" lol) and have so far avoided moving there.

The "Indians" (various native people) are in the habit of spitting on whites on streets off the main drag in Anchorage, there's a sort of "Yankee Go Home" feeling there and as peak oil narrows in, those not able to live in a more sustainable native style would be well advised to go back to the lower 48.

There are two reasons that I would not even consider moving to Alaska.  Cold and Snow.  I don't like being cold and I really hate snow.  It is ok up in the mountains, but not where I'm at.

And did I mention it is cold and snows up there?

They're talkin' about it snowing where I'm at already  :P

Other than being able to wear some of my cute sweaters, there's nothin' good about it  :P

I went hiking in the snow up in the mountains yesterday. The peaks are beginning to look nice and white. It hasn't snowed in town yet, but soon -- bring on the sweaters, wool coats, apple pies, hot cocoa, and powder days!

California girls want to know "What is this snow you speak of?"

I'm with Janet Lynn and LordKAT, cold and snow is great where it belongs. I spent too many years with it in New England, now I'm here in Atlanta where we have had a grand total of about 3 inches in nine years. :)

I am looking forward to some cute cozy sweaters this year, though. Fortunately, winter is just cold enough for sweaters and the occasional coat/jacket. Snuggling up with a cup of delicious hot chocolate (yummmm... Godiva) ain't too bad either.  ;D

I love the cold and snow - but only when I'm looking at it through the window while lounging on a soft fluffy fireside rug in a toasty warm cabin :)

As for the red-shirts, they're just walking advertisments for stupidity.  In life, we cross the pastures of humanity and they are strewn with cow pats.  It's nigh on impossible to tippy-toe through without encountering at least one of them.

Some are dessicated old things of little consequence if you accidentally cross paths with them. Many, alas, are the really nasty ones...you know, the ones with a crisp-shell around a warm, gooey interior.

Looks good for you, what with the El Nino shaping up!

What sent a chill up my spine, along with looking
directly into the eye of lying hatred, was seeing
the children who are obligated to spout this
rhetoric for their room and board.
