Thank God for the VA in Michigan. I just got my spiro and estradiol in the mail. Starting hrt today. :D. Yay I am sooo excited. Just thought I would share the good news.
gratz!. I thought I read somewhere that the VA doesn't cover hormones. Guess I was wrong.
Hold on tight darling, this is where it gets interesting.
They will cover the hormones, as long as it is a serious enough issue. I had to see their psychiatrist and get a letter from him then my psychotherapist and their endo. I found out through another trans site that the Boston VA was the first to cover hrt for their vets. So when I told the VA here in Michigan that Boston was doing it, it was just time after that.
Cool, I'm really happy for you, and a bit jealous as I have some health issues in my way to hrt.
I am so sorry Kat. I wish you the best hon; and thank you.
Drink lots of water, like a gallon a day, and mind your electrolytes. I find that sucking on a boullion cube keeps the sodium about where it needs to be. Spironolactone dehydrates ferociously and can be uncomfortable until your body gets used to it.
I can't believe the military is paying for your hormone therapy, it just boggles my mind. Do they know they are or did your doc write it up as some wacky blood pressure treatment?
As I stated, Boston was the first to do this, however hrt for veterans has been approved as long as it is basically a life threatening issue and there is no other resource. Check out TAVA website. They are really lobbying for us veterans in Washington. That is where I found out they were doing that and they are covering mine.
congrats!!!
Yay! :icon_dance:
Congratulations Kira!

Don't forget micronized progesterone (avoid progestins) when you can. It's excellent for good health, is antipressive, and is said to promote good breast growth as well.
