I think this relates to another one someone else posted a while ago, it seems like a rather complicated story in this particular case.

The concept that he started transitioning to be a she while in prison seems kind of suspicious to me. As does the attempted rape allegation. They ring a few "doing it for the wrong reasons" allarm bells for me.

What does this refer to "Keeping her in a male prison 'effectively bars her ability to qualify for surgery, which interferes with her personal autonomy in a manner which goes beyond that which imprisonment is intended to do,' Elvin said on Friday." Is that related to the "real life test"?

Generally i think they should go the the prison which matches their identity and overall appearance, and risk of being the victim of sexual assult is a big factor in that. But in this case she is in prison for sexual assult, so that presents a risk to other prisoners in a way, and it is against a female as well. It leads into a very sticky concept of her privacy VS her fellow prisoners right to know about a possibly increased risk. There is some sexual violence in female prisons, but due to anatomical considerations the risks and safety issues are a bit different in most cases.

It's a dodgy tabloid journalism site, does anyone have any better info on this case?
