Title: Tattoos and bottom surgary
Post by: Hazard "AJ" on September 19, 2009, 03:04:48 PM
i was just woundring. will the surgen pick what arm they will use for bottom surgry. the reson im asking is cuz i got a very big tattoo in my lower left arm and was thinking of adding more to it. and when the time comes for lower surgry i wouldnt want a tattoo (if u get my drifft). i wouldnt want the tattoo removed either as i love it and the tattooi want next to it will mean alot more..  But couldnt u get it removed from ur leg? i would profer that as it would be more easy to cover the scars??

But really, I think it depends on the surgeon and the type of surgery where they take the donor skin from...I've heard it from forearms, legs, stomach and even that skin on your side under your arm. And typically from what I heard it'll be your non-dominant arm, i.e. if you're left-handed they'll pick the right arm, as it can in some instances lead to nerve damage in that arm.

I've been under the understanding the reason for the arm graft is there are more nerves and such located in that donor area.

I'm going to have to second this.

As for the question regarding bottom surgery - you can probably use either forearm.  They also often take grafts from the thigh/leg, however, they are not preferred.  The forearm, from what I hear, is greatly preferred.  Yet, altogether, none of the techniques are exceptional at all.

Oh come on, guys, this isn't the worst spelling he's done. Leave it be and stick to the actual question. If this were any other site, I wouldn't say anything, but not a support group. People come here for help, not to be put down.

Anyway, I'd think they'd avoid taking any tissue that had tattoos on it, and like said before they would also take from the thigh/leg. You don't have to get phalloplasty, though.

Two things...

First, does your tattoo say "Life", "Hope" or something else? I see Hope but my girl sees Life. Go figure.

Also, I've seen a picture of a phalloplasty where they took donor skin from a guy with a forearm tattoo... He just had a tattooed dick afterward. No lies. I will see if I can find it again.

Second, play nice.

I have always wondered this question myself.

Your tat is pretty much exactly where they like to take donor material for a phalloplasty. It's preferred to use the arm as opposed to the leg as there is more sensation there, then again I haven't heard great things about sensation post op with a phallo anyways.

As with any surgery weigh your options because no matter what surgery you get down there it will be a compromise.

Y'know... phallos look like absolute crap regardless of whether or not you have tats. Sorry.

So... best case scenario, the tattoos cover up the nasty scarring.

That may be your opinion, but I actually think it's pretty offensive to post something like that. You're talking about people's anatomy here, and something that's very important to a lot of trans guys. And as I said, that's merely YOUR opinion, not a fact - I've seen plenty of phallos which I think look great and which I'd be more than happy about if they were mine. I've also seen others that I'd be less happy with personally, but I'd never say they look crap - if the guy who has it is happy with it, that's the only important thing.

No, the forearm isn't the only place that can be used for a phallo. In the UK, abdominal phallos are also fairly common. In Belgium there's a technique using a combination of the forearm and the thigh, and elsewhere there's a version using the side. However, if you're on the NHS, you're limited to the UK or Belgium - but the abdominal phallo is definitely an option for you.

Really? I was told by my gender clinic (NHS, UK) at my most recent appointment that they do not do abdominal phallos, only forearm.

I'm just posting here because I like the spelling "bottum" lol I'm gonna use that.

Now for a poem:

If your bottum burps in public
Be sure to say in time -
"Goodness gracious what a whiff!
It doesn't smell like mine!"

Which gender clinic told you this? They're completely wrong, whoever it was! The London team do abdominal or forearm phallos, and you can also apply to go to Belgium where they do forearm, forearm/thigh combination and abdominal phallos.

I really hope its wrong because if I want phallo in the future I can't use my forearm, too many scars.
