This poll goes with the topic https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,6542.0.html that I made about Gender divide in interests.

I have writen some stuff on fashion and crafts. I was wondering what type of magazines that you buy vs your gender. I am the magazine specialist at my store at the moment. To me , you can really tell what a person likes based on what magazines they buy. There is such a variety out there, that it covers almost any topic. It sort of mirrors hobbies and sometimes priorities.

I put this in the androgyne section since I specifically want to see if androgynes have both types of magazine interests, though anyone from the whole spectrum can take it also.

Anyways, this is just something curious that I have never seen asked, that I wonder about, being something I do at work, and such.

If you want to comment about what you like and how you feel about it vs your gender go ahead, the space here is for that.

I said mostly Opposite my Gender. I still consider my self of the male gender and if I do read magazines (very rarly) it will be of the female variety.

Interesting topic Kendra.  I will have to think about how to answer the poll, but here is a list of magazines I subscribe to or buy regularly.

Newsweek - The Week - National Geographic - Popular Science - Classic Automobile -Trains -Model Railroader - Classic Trains - Films of the Golden Age - Cooks Country.

I also try to buy one or two different magazines a month, usually based on content and often current affairs. 

I guess being genetic male pre-transition female, my tastes may lean male, but those are my interests.  As for "Women's" magazines, I never have gotten interested in them, be they glamour, gossip, crafts (except for railroad) or happy homemaker.  I definitely do not care a bit for sports, hunting, or so-called "Men's" magazines, although in years past I did read Playboy.  (Yes, as a matter of fact I did read it, as well as enjoying the pictorial depictions of the role models there-in!)  >:D

Well, reading this over, I guess I can answer the poll now.

I only really read magazines about motorcycles and video production (mmmm..toys..). Since those aren't gender exclusive, I replied accordingly.

I said mostly my Gender,  Pretty much fashion mags, health and fitness.... Only one I read thats not specificaly female geared would be Alternitive Press, and even then its geared about half and half....

Motorcycles, computer games, and news magazines (like Time). Gender neutral, I guess. What's a men's magazine anyway? Other than, I suppose, Men's Health.

From what I have seen in almost 3 years of selling $7,000 per week, ~3,000 different types of magazines.

Magazines that have very low female readers or buyers and mostly Men are:

Guns, cars/motorcycles, electronics, marijuana, swimsuit/women possing for men mags(Playboy, Penthouse, etc, FHM, Maxim, Stuff, King, Smooth, Black Men), science (popular mechanics/science, astronomy, robots, science journals), computers (PC, Xbox, PS), gaming (gambling), hunting/fishing, boating, golf, train/remote control hobby, sports (football, basketball, baseball, hockey, martial arts, grappling, wrestling, soccer/football), military history, sports card collection, comics, Health (like Men's Health, Men's journal, as well as the muscle magazines: Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Muscular development, and several more), and for fashion the biggest one GQ and Details

I said a mixture, because I like some that are generally men's and some that are generally women's.  Being technical minded, I tend to pick up the more male oriented ones to satisfy that, and I look at fashion magazines every once in a while.  For the most part though, I don't have any regular subscriptions to any magazines or newspapers.

The only mag that I subscribe to is "Fine Woodworking" - kinda butch but more so is smoking cigars once in a while! 

I like to read news magazines (Time, Newsweek) and the National Geographic but I don't buy them.

I'm still out in the world in my old disguise but I like to read the fashion mags at the salon when my spouse gets her hair done (I'm the chauffeur) but I don't know enough about them yet to even have a preference.

I like reading books more than magazines.

I voted mixture, with some neural ones.

The only magazines I read regularly are music magazines which are neutral/slightly male, Kerrang! and Rocksound mainly.
Though, I confess, I occassionally find myself reading tacky celeb gossip magazines and enjoying it... oh dear. ::)

None of the responses really fit my magazine reading.  The only magazines we buy are the women's magazines at the grocery counter--things like Family Circle, Women's Day.  Both my wife and I read these; I particularly like the recipes, but I also like to read the makeup and fashion tips.

I regularly read the New Yorker and the New York Review of Books, but I read these at the library and do not subscribe to either.  I also occasionally look at Newsweek, Time, US News, New Republic, but I do not make a general habit of reading these.

I also read professional journals--Ethics, the Review of Metaphysics, Journal of Philosophy. etc.

So most of my reading is gender-neutral, but the only magazines I buy are women's magazines.

Mostly the same as my gender, though a few can be either or the opposite

And thats not my preference, I just tend to have a lot of interests that traditionally fall on the male side...

Female magizines are more about gossip and appearance, and as I couldn't care less about which celeb is going out with who, and as I don't go out in public, these are of very little interest to me...

Gaming, Politics, Science, etc. here... :)

Hmm.  I wasn't quite sure how to answer.  I picked neutral.

I like:  The New Yorker, The Smithsonian, Writer's Digest, Analog, Astronomy, National Geographic, and Fine Woodworking. 

I don't like fashion magazines of any ilk.

Ya these I see are pretty neutral. Yep everyone is unique, and thats why I wanted to see what everyone gets. To me its interesting, since it's my job. I have never asked any tgs what they get and why , so hearing everything in this post is new information even to me.

Fashion popularity and gossip I see does have a age range, from about age 14/16 to age 35/40. Though its the most popular of the women's I see go through the register, it turns to more of home, cooking, interior design, garden, travel, art and crafts (quilting, crochet, needlepoint, scrapbooking, card/papercrafts, sewing) for older women.

For entertainment magazines, instead of gossip it becomes more romance mags, true crime mags, scifi/fantasy, mystery, soap opera, and general entertainment (Entertainment weekly, tv guide)(puzzle mags are also very popular with older women). Something like martha stewart living, Better homes and gardens, Sunset, Women's day, Family Circle, Lady's Home Journal, Redbook, Oprah Magazine, and Town and Country types.

Geneology also is pretty popular among older women.

I suppose that in my list, the SciFi rag, Analog, is probably read mostly by men.  Fine woodworking oddly enough is almost considered an art magazine and there are many women subscribers.
