Title: Do you every feel normal?
Post by: Valerie Elizabeth on October 20, 2009, 07:01:40 PM
Not about gender on this one.  Surgery!

So, it's been a week over 4 months since my FFS.  Most of my face feels normal, but my nose still feels a little funny.  My scalp is slowly starting to get sensation back.

Will, after having plastic surgery, you eventually feel normal again?  Am I just an anomaly?

Is the same true after SRS?  I have that coming up in the near(ish) future.

Just curious.

Think years for the feeling to completely recover if ever.

I get that the feeling takes time.  I am slowly gaining feeling back.

My scalp feels normal 90% of the day, when I'm not touching it.  What I am curious about is will my face ever feel normal, the same with SRS.

Didn't mean if that came out a little harsh.

The center of my lip is still a little numb 4 years later as is the left lower side of my nose.  SRS there is no nerve damage.

Depending on the severity of the surgery, and FFS is severe, it can take 18 months or more for full sensation returns.  And there is a fair possibility that is may not return completely or at all.

It has been over two years since my FFS and I still have some numb or light sensory areas on my scalp, face and chest.  According to the doctor (Zukowski), I may never get complete feeling back.  Dr McGinn, who also had FFS has virtually no sensation on her scalp seven years after her surgery.

It's been over 18 months since my SRS and I have pretty complete sensation there, though I was numb on the outer tissues for quite some time.

I had surgery on my neck to remove plaque in my carotid.  That was 3 years ago and I still have some numbness.  That does not bother me at all.  What does are the sharp zaps I get ever so often.  It is the nerves regenerating.

You will get some feeling back, just give it time.

It's been over sixteen months since my chest surgery, and I still have some numbness under my arms.  Most of it has come back, but not all of it.  And I know one woman at my local TS/TG group has said she's had facial feminisation and the feeling in the left side of her face has never recovered completely -- like, if she slaps that side of her face, she has enough sensation to feel something, but not as much sensation as the other side of her face.

Right above my left brow & below my lower lip is numb.  The tip of my nose the same problem.  Compared to what I've heard in the FFS yahoo group I belong to, I've got to consider myself lucky.  With GRS I haven't had any problems at all.
