I consider myself to be a fairly open-minded person. I practically leak.

But I'm surprised at my animosity toward the color pink. I mean, it's just a color. But don't let it near me!

Am I the only one passionate about pink?

Couldn't care either way.

If I like a tee shirt and its pink then it doesn't make a diff to me what so ever!

My fav pink is hott pink though :)

I am all about pink, but then again I am a woman.

It is funny that before WWII, pink was for boys and blue for girls.  Then it changed.  Never have found out why.

I am told that in Canada in order to hunt Moose, you are required to wear pink.

pink is ok in small doses

like I have a pink husband(one of those pillows that prop you up)

and I used to have a pink phone, but now I have a new skin for my phone

I don't really like pink, but I can like it in small doses, like I said

It's a very cheerful and sweet colour. I like it and I think of cotton candy when i see it.  I wouldn't wear a pink suit for a business meeting or walk around the streets with a pink handbag though.

I absolutely love pink, probably my favorite color. I'm passionate about it in the opposite way. My entire bedroom and bathroom are decorated in white and pink and I wear it often. I even have 2 pair of pink Converse tennis shoes (with pink laces) and yes, my cell phone is pink too lol

I tend to avoid it in my own posessions. Social conditioning, I suppose... though it really depends on the item itself... one of my favourite t-shirts is pink, but I love it purely because of the design on it (a load of Japanese writing and a picture of a yellow chick). ;D Though according to a friend of mine the writing said something about chicken soup! :D Very worrying...

Virginia Marie: "Have You ever seen pink and orange coral? Breath taking" (Cannot figure out how to use the Quote option! ??? )

Pink and orange coral is gorgeous. I don't mind any of the colours of the rainbow in the natural world, it's just when it comes to artificial stuff I can actually choose the colour of, I would rather avoid it. (:

I have animosity toward pink, mainly because my mother tried to girl up my bedroom with that color. I liked black. I liked red. Instead I got magenta curtains (magenta!) and a stupid pink lamp with a fuzzy pink stuffed poodle on the base. You get the picture.

When we moved, I was told I could do up my new bedroom any way I wanted. Naturally, I chose red and black. She caved in and did up the room in red and white. Threw in a couple of black items for accent. Painted the walls yellow. YELLOW. Over my protests, of course. She was implacable. My father didn't intervene. The original gutless wonder. I suppose he thought it was a mother-daughter thing.

I feel that she reneged on the offer. Couldn't deal with her little butch kid. I'm sure she thought she had a budding lesbian on her hands. At fourteen, she said I was mature for not wanting to wear makeup. At sixteen, I was an anomaly for not wanting to.

And it all goes back to the stupid pink poodle...oh, and the idiotic paintings of big-eyed girls in crinolines...I mean, seriously. I couldn't sleep at night because of those paintings. They actually gave me nightmares.

So, no, I am not a big fan of pink.

Pink is teh evil ;) I also think it's stereotypical, i.e. "oh, you're a girl so you must *love* pink." Um, no sorry. To me pink gets associated with frilly little girls and I have never been frilly. Ever. *shrug* I was and probably still am a tomboy. :)

My favorite colors are green, blue and purple. I believe I have one pink shirt and it's not a solid pink either. It has green and white stripes in it as well. For the record, I also don't do pastels or yellow either.

I also have a pink cellphone.  I'm not out so when people start on it being pink I just tell them it was the same price as the same black phone and some of that money went to breast cancer research.  My SO's mother had breast cancer (she's a survivor)  and I do the walk every year.  So folks generally back off rather quickly.
I keep my ribbon pin on my jacket all the time so folks generally don't ask me too many questions.

However I love my pink polo - it's the most girly thing I have at the moment.  It's something I can get away with at work and such.   I like the "girls" colors - pink, purple, teal and lucky me they look good on me. :)

Every once and a while when I find them starring at me I just want to face them and say: Haven't you ever seen a man in a pink shirt before?
Hell - John Travolta wore pink and no one ever questioned him!  Oh well.

I love pink with a passion... lots of shades.  Some look terrible on clothes but others are killer.  I also like purple but that almost always looks terrible in fabric.

I also love black/white/grey/red, so...

What I really want is a baby pink sleeveless sweater-dress in my size... maybe if I learn how to knit!

I'm okay with pink. Not my favorite (green), but I don't abhor it or ambivalent about it. I don't wear pink, just doesn't do my complexion good. I'm not too fond of hot fluorescent pinks or neon pinks, but in measure they can have their place.

Pink coral, yeah, fabulous!

Breast Cancer Awareness pink, yeah and important as well.

"Stereotypical Stepford Wife, June Cleaver pink", umm, not so much.

Pink butt... umm... I'll just keep my mouth shut now.  :eusa_naughty:

Totally with Jamie,

I have several pink tops that go great with grey skirts. OK with black but stand out with grey (TME).

I also love blue, again often with with grey and/or black. Oops my avatar.

Do you reckon we are stereotyped as children into colour selection?

I didn't think so. I thought it was just phases of life, experiment with colours we like no matter what gender we may be.

As Janet said pink and blue use to be traditional colours for girls and boys. Anyone know why?

Are there new colours nowadays?

For example most university kids are non-conformist (so they say) and dress the same.

I love blues and grays too, I have quite a few blue tops. I have so many pinks, blues and grays that when I wanted a new blue or gray hoodie my wife told me enough ! so she went out and bought me a new women tan and white one !

As far as stereotyping I think their is some truth in that, as my 11 year old grandson wouldn't let us buy him a new jacket because it had 2 small pink stripes mixed in with some blue ones stating "Pink is for girls only"

There a lot of truth in that quote, I was 16years old when I started transition, first 16years of my life the color pink was alien, then when I started transition the color pink was introduced into my life and it was everywhere, it became my favorite color. My parents decorated my room in different shades of pink, I remember the walls painted in a pretty Barbie pink, the ceiling painted in a soft baby pink, when I opened my eyes every morning it was the first color Id see and the last color before I went to sleep. I remember my bedside locker and lamp where a beautiful barbie pink. My brother hated it, he thought it was over the top too sissy and girly, but I was very comfortable with pink, it made me feel feminine.
Nowadays my cellphone is pink, over half my clothes are pink, my computer laptop is a dell pink, at night my BF thinks I look like a princess in my pink nightie lol
Im not ashamed, I love pink.

It's a great color, it just has to be used properly. Conceivably, one could put together an all-pink room or an all-pink outfit, but you'd need half a dozen different shades to make it work nicely. And people will still dismiss it as gimmicky... (sigh)

I love the color. That being said, I still can't spend very long in the Barbie aisle at the Toys-R-Us.
All the hot pink starts to burn after a little while. Who doesn't think that though? ^_^

Iv read all the replys in this thread, both funny and interesting, but its kinda split, and Arch your so so funny, I love your sense of humour, but what is it about GUYS AND PINK.
I remember an incident with my brother years ago with the color pink lol my family had visitors to stay, but I was away on vacation, my brother had not moved out yet, so the only room available for him to sleep in was my room, now my room was very very pink, every shade of pink, Barbie pink, soft baby pink, minky pink, peachy pink, right down to the curtains on the windows which where actually white but had a pink trim frill tied back in hooks to the wall with pink bows. Anyway my brother refused to sleep in my ''girly pink room'' as he called it so slept on a cold hard floor downstairs for nearly a week, my Mam and I had a good laugh about it for years, Im sure he got a sore back out of it, what a sacriffice to make, choose to suffer back pain than sleep in pink, we girls don't have a hang up on blues, but what is it about GUYS AND PINK.

Wow that's some serious hatred just for a small band of the visible light color spectrum.  :P
I don't get the anti-pink thing.   But as I said I love the "girly" colors anyway.

A while ago I asked a friend why he was against pink.  He said it's a girls color.  I pointed out that his Vikings Jacket was purple and that's a "girls color" too.  He just shrugged and said "But it's not pink."

Yeah, huge help that conversation was huh?

Most of the people I work with spray paint their tools so at the end of the day we can get them back. So I love the social conditioning deal, none of the girls would ever think of using 'pink' it's too 'girly' in a male dominated world where they are trying to not be considered 'just a girl.'  On the other hand, guys hate it with such a passion that that color on it will keep them from walking away with a $250 power-driver just because I spray painted it fluorescent hot pink.  It's also nice because I often work in the dark (yeah, moral and mental, but in this case I'm talking a physical darkness) it makes them easy to find with an LED light.

I like it. At least, I do when it's used in a visually pleasing manner. it's not my very favorite color, but I certainly have nothing against it. I don't really have something against any color-- as an artist, I find myself using so many colors so often that it's hard to hate any of them!

I like the brighter pinks like magenta rather than the paler tones.

I love pink!  I also love fuchsia too!  I just wish I could wear more pink outside my little world.  I would love to get a pink netbook so that I can place all of my fem stuff into. :D

Pink with black is my favorite though, like.. pink converse shoes with pink hair and a nice pair of black skinnies oh yeahhhh lol.

Well as a child i was very against pink, (despite it secretly being my second favourite colour) because i was trying my best to identify as male. So pink clothes, pink shoes and generally the colour pink were out. I did have a pink bedroom  :-\ not my choice unfortunatly.

Now i don't no i've got so used to not liking pink that i still don't.

I think of colors like I think of musical notes. None are beautiful alone, but in a particular context every color can be beautiful. Even that awful mustard brown you hate so much can look heavenly when it's the color of a sandstone cliff above a rust-red creek shaded by soft green cottonwoods under a deep blue desert sky dotted with puffy yet crisp white cumulus clouds.

Here are some ways I like the color pink:

The color of the middle section of summer thunderheads just after sunset, when their anvil tops are still white and their bases a deepening bluish-gray.

The flush of cheeks in a slopeside bar after a day of skiing.

Dew-covered paintbrush blossoms in a high alpine meadow.

The swirls on the inside of an oyster shell.

Raspberry sorbet on a sugar cone.

The sweater I'm wearing right now. (it's chilly today!)

Lately I have come to like it a lot.  When i have the money,( and the courage) I will wear a pink motorcycle jacket with white piping and trim, I saw a while ago.
