Title: Holding Your Shirt...?
Post by: Dante on October 27, 2009, 11:30:44 PM
This is going to sound random, but I just wanted to see if anybody else has this habit...

So, I've developed this habit of holding my shirt away from me when I walk in the wind (even if it's just a tiny breeze) so that I can't see my girly silhouette. Seeing myself just makes me sick, and so I adopted this habit so I could make sure that I don't see my boobs jutting out like a balcony (and so that nobody else can either). It's gotten me into trouble many times, since my friends have asked me about it: "Why do you do that?" "Do what?" "Hold your shirt like that?" "Umm..."

I'm obsessed with doing this now; when I'm in the wind, when I'm laying down, etc. (I kinda have a problem in PE with the crunches and the jumping jacks where my boobs bounce around in plain view  :( ) So, to the point... does anyone do this or something similar?

Me! me! me!
For the other reason haha :D I kind do it to hide from all the people who think or expect me to be a guy so they won't notice the breast or changes in figure and start asking questions which will be the wrong questions anyways.
Or just to blend in society, until the face gets there, I rather skip the freak status you get from having one face and other body! when the face is there, there won't be a freak status around random people, just me! just a girl :) ^^

heh I do this, glad I'm not alone. I hate walking towards the wind, ruining my carefully planned layers and showing everything off!

Oh wow, you bring me back to HS.

I just never think about the stuff that I used to do. But yeah, I had that same habit. Hated windy days because of it and I also pulled the shirts from the middle of the chest. And of course hunching a bit.

In days where it was just too much to avoid the wind, I dared to wear my backpack in front and lean. It looked odd but it was worse than nothing. The worse was in rainy days because getting wet meant it was impossible to hide anything.

But thats why I hated some shirts that had a flowly or thin fabric.

I wouldn't hold my shirt, but I used to always walk with my hand in my pockets, and when I would be "walking into my shadow", i used to hold my arms against me in a way that made me look twice as fat, but would hide the "hourglass".

Yep. Sad to say I still do this even though I always bind. I guess it became force of habit.

Well I don't do it to hide my chest (I don't have huge tits.)

But I usually wear some sort of button up shirt over my normal shirt and usually hold it tighter around the hips so it doesn't flap around and so I'll (hopefully) look more masculine.

So it's a habit now anyway to hold my shirts from the hips.

Yes, I've been noticing habits that I have, in order to shield what's on my chest.  I do hunch a lot.  I am absolutely obsessed with them, no matter how odd that sounds, when I am not wearing a very sickeningly tight sport's bra. (No binder yet - I plan to buy one but simply haven't gotten around to it).  I don't ever want to feel fabric brushing over them.  Showers are even hard for me to do!  I'll hold my arms against my chest, subconsciously.  It's hard to deal with for all of us.

I do this when I'm in boy mode too. :)

By going off your photo I'd say you're already there.

This is what I do, combined with wearing things that are... "bulky"

Well I use to do that when I was still wearing sport bras. Although now that I'm actually wearing a binder, I may not care anymore and that habit will be broken. Just like I've found I've broken my habit of constantly readjusting my shirt and slouching a lot.

I don't. I've learned to stop caring about what others think about my body. If they see it (in my case) they'll think "Oh look at that fat guy with moobs". I think it's a cynical thing that I've developed as I age and I find I care less about what others think of me and more about what me thinks of me.

A binder might help in the wind.

Before top surgery wasn't really fussed with my chest it was always my fat. I used to slouch my shoulders to try and cover the breasts as much as I could. But now I have a bad spine because of it! GRRR!!

I guess I really should stop slouching.  :o  I never thought about it messing up my spine.  I only thought about it shielding my moobs.

Glad to know I'm not alone. I slouch a lot, too. It's almost comical; what we do to hide our boobs from sight.

@Linus: I wish I could use my binder more, but I have PE so I can't change my clothes if I have a binder underneath. Besides, I'd still have to hold my shirt because even with a binder my chest is visible (I'm guesstimating that I have a C cup now; haven't worn anything but a sports bra in a long time).

I pull down my shirt more often not in the wind then in it. My hips arent that large so I just try to hide my breasts. Ive never really thought about the wind though. And yes I slouch as a last resort. I dont like to.

I pull my shirt out too; I have a pendant on a black string that hangs right in the middle of my chest (helps hide the top binder-line), so usually it just looks like I'm grabbing at that, and not so much at my shirt. I bind full-time out of home, but I still get conscious about my 'figure' because I have a small waist, and boy does it show when the wind pulls my (still-too-big) shirts against me.

I have terrible posture. My grandmother (the PT) used to give me crap about it all the time. As soon as the binder goes on; my spine straightens out. It's totally to hide the moobs, and it will ruin your back and make it harder to build good shoulder and chest muscles. For the sake of your spine - get a binder!

I never did the shirt trick, but I used to hunch over something awful. When I started binding, I started to stand up straighter. I still didn't have quite the contour I wanted, but standing up straight didn't accentuate my deformities anymore.

Now, as my therapist has observed with delight, I often adopt a very masculine slouch when I sit across from him. Feels great.

I used to do that a lot of the time, but I guessed it looked weird from an onlooker, so I just began to where really bluky clothes and hoodies with pockets in the front so I could pull the clothing away from by body slightly without everybody realising what I was doing.

Glad I'm not in school anymore so I don't have the whole PE episodes to contend with.

This is too funny. I always thought I was the only person who did that. I bind, but I still slouch and pull my shirt away. I do it when facing the wind or whenever I feel like my shirt is showing my chest too much. Bleh. Glad to know I'm not the only one though!

I don't, but I do readjust my shirt all the time. It's a bad habit.

nah I don't do that in public when I have a binder

but If I dont have anything on, r just a sports bra on (walking around in my dorm) I often hold my shirt out to make a tent like thing so no one can see the boob shape, or boob jiggle... :P

I don't hold my shirt out in front of me or anything like that, but I feel uncomfortable with how visible my breasts are (no binder as of yet), and I find myself constantly readjusting my shirt.  I'll pull it down, pull it out, shift it around to hide my chest, hunch over, etc...
