Campus queens, dress the part

It's shallow of me, but I thought the new homecoming queen at the College of William and Mary would — I don't know — make more of an effort.

A little lipstick, a little blush. A little satin or sequins.

Instead, Jessee Vasold looked underwhelmed and underdressed in a photo of his crowning at halftime Saturday, wearing a basic collared shirt in a shade of red that did nothing for his skin tone, towering over his dapper, boyish escort, who barely reached Vasold's stubbly cheek. At least the escort wore a suit and tie and boutonniere.
