Title: Any unusal effects
Post by: julie4321 on October 29, 2009, 04:16:46 PM
Anyone can assume the natural effects of female hormones on someone's body, but what I am curious to know is what are some of the effects that perhaps aren't so common?  Anything that shocked anyone?

Not in my case, although I wish I was bigger on top.

Hey Julie, It's nice to meet you  :)

Some people think they "change" sexual orientation but that's debated, so if your'e a closet case get ready for it to be harder to deal with. My dietary preferences changed dramatically. Most shocking I would say was the change in the intensity of the smells and tastes of foods, especially sweets. Of course there was also the tail, but we don't know for sure if that was hrt related or just genetic.

Oh yeah, I discovered last night that it is excruciatingly painful to have your growing boobs chill through. I turned into a cold wind on my walk last night and it cut me to the bone, especially there. I've never stuffed a bra in my life, but today the girls are well insulated.

I can't think of anything else right now.

There was an interesting thread here a few days ago about how creativity has changed as a result of HRT. I've been surprised at all the little things it seems to affect that we don't usually hear about.

Everything your own body does smells better(or at least not as bad), riding the bus is horrid(I actually spray mucho parfume under my nose), but guys that take showers every day & then get dirty, hot, & sweaty, ooo...PULL my hair!

The only changes I've noticed that I didn't expect have been in how I feel, and because I started full-time and hormones at about the same time I don't know which caused what.

I feel TERRIFIC most of the time.  And I am far chattier than I ever was.  I'm livelier, more expressive, friendlier, more outgoing ... [shut up, Kate.  Enough!]

See what I mean? ;)

I've found fat accumilates around my belly and my legs and butt are stick thin. This is an unwanted effect from HRT and mimicks male type fat distribution. If I stop HRT long enough the fat on my belly will go down. Any fat you have had previously will be a target for HRT so make sure you don't have any fat on your waist when you start HRT.

Also if I take too much estrogen I get headaches from high prolactin levels. So I have to regulate my intake more thoroughly. I also get more physically tired on HRT.
