I'm going to a drag show this weekend and feeling lame because, technically, mens clothes are seeming less and less like appropriate attire (if I had the time, I would get a kilt--I know, still technically mens clothes, but...). So I added a little eyeliner. And was shocked by how it seemed to push me back into the 'is that a boy or a girl?' category. So, honest opinion: what do you guys think? Boy, girl, somewhere in the middle, how would you take me at first glance?

Or maybe I'm just being silly? I 'spose I don't care all that much, since it is a drag show and my ideal attire would make people wonder whether I'm male or female. I guess I just don't like the idea of strutting around looking like a butch lesbian (y'know--that whole 'it's harder to pass around queer people' thing). I guess it's the wide, strong hips that are bothering me still.
I also have a practical question: does eyeliner go only on the bottom of the eye or on the top, too?

Thanks. They're actually womens' boots (my mom got them for me about 5 years ago) and I'm lucky they still fit--had to take out the insoles. Blouse? No clue what that means, I always thought that was a shirt. Please enlighten me?

Blousing your boots is kinda what you have inadvertently going on, it's how the military gets such a crisp appearance in that department. Roll your trousers all the way down over your ankles, and put a hairtie around your ankle, over or under the cloth as you prefer the look. Roll your cuff up with the hairtie inside and put your boots on, then roll it down a lil bit to just inside or over, again as you prefer, the top of the boots. Your trousers look tucked into your boots but not forced, and stay put really well.
I agree on the glasses thing, contacts are definitely the way to go.

I agree, though it's easier said than done. I have tried contacts several times--3 or 4 different brands, each in at least 3 different diopters--all geared towards astigmatism. I've tried this with two different eye doctors, but they're flummoxed and can get nothing to fit my eye. It's kind of slow going trying things out, as the lenses are all special order. I've kind of given up at the moment.
Get new frames. Thin black wire frames are masculine. Those flat square ones, you know?

im not sure what to think about the glasses pic. :/ have you tried thicker framed plastics? your glasses look a little bent so that theyre an upside down u shape which makes them seem feminine. if they really are bent and its no a trick of the camera, try unbending them so that theyre straight across on top.

Yah, I've tried both the thick plastic glasses and the thin wire ones, both with a square frame. Neither seemed as masculine as my face sans glasses, unfortunately. I decided on the ones I have now because they are a cross between the thick plastic/thin wire frames and eliminate the problems I had with plastic and thin wire: I would break the plastic ones, and the wire ones wouldn't work well with the thick lenses I need. These are a heavyweight black metal. Maybe the wrong choice, given the opinions here, though...
Good eyes, Josh. The glasses are a little bent, but not as much as that picture makes them look. Here's a straight on pic. Any improvement? I'd try bending 'em and taking a pic, but they can't be bent unless the metal is heated up (I can get hit in the face and these things won't break--yes, I've tried it :icon_weirdface:).

from what i know of eyeliner (not much) it seems that about half of eyeliner wearing people put it on the top also and its usually only on the outer half of the top lid.

I'll agree that the eyeliner and hips are fine, but the glasses make you look more girl. I also think you may want to re-think the vest, just because it visually narrows your shoulders, which also has a feminizing effect. Can you get away with the shirt on its own?
If it makes you feel any better, though, having heard your voice, I doubt anyone would continue thinking "girl" after talking to you.

Yeah, for some reason the glasses look very feminine on you. It might be the square cut. I see that more on women's glasses than men's/unisex. I think the thickness of the frames is more feminine too. Of course I'm biased because I just like wire frame glasses, but I understand your situation about having heavy lenses.
As for the guyliner advise, can't help you there.

Precisely, dude! I'm a guy wearing mens' clothes to a drag show... I normally wear those pants to go job interviewing in! I think a skirt would be more in line with the whole drag thing, if I could pull it off (can't believe I'm seriously considering wearing one of those things...)

Huh, interesting but possible thought. I don't know how I'd bush 'em up, though; this is kind of just how they grow. I've never plucked them or done anything to them in my life. I've never thought of my eyebrows as distinctly fem, because they look so much like my dads: natural arch and not very bushy.

Yah, I saw that about the vest (visually narrows shoulders), but I'm not quite comfortable running around in just the fishnets + wifebeater yet. I still have just enough of a chest that something that skintight does not help me. And yep, the voice thing does make me feel better. Given the universal 'thumbs down' on the glasses, I was beginning to wonder why I'm passing without fail now--since I'm never seen without my glasses IRL. Must be the voice.

To the rest of you guys (and a couple girls): thanks for your honest opinion. It kind of confirms what I was already seeing, but didn't know for sure. I still don't understand why a very blatantly mens' frame would look so fem on me, but... there it is. They don't seem to hurt my passing IRL, though, so I'll keep 'em a while longer (with the lenses I need, the damned things are expensive). I'm actually very much in the market for laser eye surgery, once I can afford it. In the long run, it should be cheaper than buying glasses for a lifetime. My eye doc says I'm an excellent candidate for it, and it will be really nice to see with 20/20 again... my eyes have unfortunately gotten bad enough that glasses can only take me to 20/40.
Heh, I've actually pondered the 'drag' question. Drag for me would definitely be wearing a big masculine outfit... and I'd probably still be 50/50 nowadays. But I don't *want* to dress like a man. And I don't want to go to a drag show as female because it's *not drag* - and I don't want to be seen as a drag queen if somebody clocks me.
#1 is a great shot, you might consider replacing your avatar. Your brows and the curly hair are detriments, I think - but usually guys with curly hair like that are 'softer' men anyway.
For the dudes here, what do you see as the most feminine glasses? Not to hijack, but since it came up. I've put off getting a new pair for a long time because I cannot find the right frame at all.
Glasses are hard, I have a men's plastic frame thick ones on my avatar and think they still look feminine, so I don't think changing the style will work for you. Glasses I think just look feminine until you really get the square jaw/ face thing happening even more. Let me know if you find glasses that you think work better. I agree that they are the only thing that makes you look feminine at all.

Yeah, I would definitely try different frames, or even contact lenses. I don't know exactly why they feminize you. I do agree the thin eyebrows do something, but the glasses themselves have a feminizing effect. Otherwise I would definitely say you look male.
Oh, and my father wears glasses but they are not feminizing. Go for smaller, rectangular glasses with thinner frames.

No glasses or eyeliner and I wouldn't question you for a second...with, on the other hand, makes a huge difference in my opinion. I understand that eyeliner is popular with some of the emo or goth boys but it does add a noticeable femininity. It's whatever you are comfortable with.
My advice, skip the eyeliner, try to get a more masculine frame for glasses and the eyebrows could go either way so no biggie there.
In your profile picture you def look 100% male.
However in the other pics you are def sitting in the middle, if I saw you walking down the street, I would not be sure.
