Title: This is more random then anything else....
Post by: Megan on November 14, 2009, 08:07:50 AM
This one boy in class told me yesterday, "You're the prettiest girl in class". Okay, I was just trying to fit into the conversation (about girls) and I ask him who he thought was the prettiest girl in the class. I kind of stumbled for right words after that, like saying I'm talking about girls. (also thinking if I was a girl I would be).

But anyways,  I was just thinking what defines a woman. I fear transition because I do not want to be a ultra-sexual plastic woman with blonde hair (Pamela Anderson). But a real woman (like Shania Twain).

And I think transitioning will make me into a Pamela Anderson for some reason. I watch a lot of videos of transgendered people and a lot of them are just oozing with sex appeal, I don't want to sexy or a sex object, just beautiful and normal.

I don't want to live in stealth that much either (it's cool but if I follow my career it's not possible), so I think society will treat me a sex object freak that belongs in a nympho sideshow.

I'd be quite happy if I looked like either Pammy or Shania. Not many transsexuals would be able to look that good, with or without a boob job. I haven't seen any video's with transgendered people oozing with sex appeal but them again I don't own any adult video's and I haven't been to thailand!

I remember Tula Cossey, a model that was outed in the 1980's and looked amazing and she's transsexual but there arn't many like her.

Well, are you afraid of like men always thinking you're sexy? or always checking you out because you look very pretty? If so, they look at a girl no matter what, at least from my experience of working with "macho" men at my job, not even kidding, every 5 minutes they run out and drool over a girl that walks by, so I walk by and say, hey, stop checking out the girl and get to work, followed by the girl giving them a dirty look and them getting mad at me lol.

or are you just afraid of looking fake? like a barbie doll? Because I can understand that, I want to go with as little plastic surgery as possible, one for it being expensive, and the other because its not something you can reverse if you don't like the way it looks.

I can't help it... I just like pretty women... ;)

I don't know, I think you actually have to make a huge effort to end up looking like a plastic woman. Plastic surgery alone(unless it's huuuuge amounts) isn't going to make you look like a hussy. It's more about how you dress and wear your make up.

Of course you do Tristan lol :P you can come work where I work, next to TCU, swear there seems to be no such thing as an unattractive person in that school o.O

Yeah, I guess it would take A LOT to make you look fake, but seeming like you get one thing done and everyone notices it.

Ha ha, sounds like fun.

Well, when you're transitioning, they're going to notice changes anyway.

Just looking fake, with the blown up lips, and arch eyebrows.  Guys looking at me as sexy doesn't bother me as much, but I wouldn't want it to happen constantly because it will get annoying.

And the ones I see on Jerry Springer have that look.

I wish! but unfortunitely they think I'm the middle aged housewife type and I rarely get chatted up by men.

I rather look like myself as a guy then look like modern-day Pamela Anderson any day.

She's like the definition of ugly to me.

If I was offered a chance to be a genetic woman but in the body of today's Pamela Anderson, I would immediately say no.

She was pretty years ago though, like early 90s.

Please, I ask you nicely, do not say these things about Pamella.

I hope this is another tounge-in-cheek thread and that I'm just not getting the point.
QuoteI do not want to be a ultra-sexual plastic woman
Then don't. I've never had a doctor hold me down and shoot botox into my lips. I had to clear out my myspace friends list the other day (don't ask lol) and I noticed that you can't really distinguish the women with transexual history from the genetic women on it. They are no more or less "fabulous" than anyone else. As a matter of fact, in a couple cases the casual observer would probably guess wrong.

This whole Pamela Anderson thing is a stereotype.
QuoteAnd the ones I see on Jerry Springer have that look.
The "ones" (a.k.a.people) I see are normal, everyday girls. I might suggest picking your role models differently, for every flaming gay guy in a dress theres a real live, normal, regular girl who is the real article. Here's some youtube for you that's no where near as bothersome. I'll confess I didn't watch much of the Jerry Springer so I apologise in advance in the off chance it was actually informative and representative of our community.

This one is awesome

Another girl, who you've seen around here  ;)

Anyway there ya go, three success stories and great role models. There's lots more too, so let me know if I can be of any further assistance  :-*

Here's one trans woman who has been active on youtube for a long time:

http://www.youtube.com/user/grishno (http://www.youtube.com/user/grishno)

And of course, there's this list of women just about as ordinary as any you could imagine:

http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TSsuccesses/TSsuccesses.html (http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TSsuccesses/TSsuccesses.html)

Megan, you seem to have a lot of internalized transphobia, which is pretty common among trans people. And making catty remarks about attractive women is a common female trait you'd probably do well not to adopt. It might make you feel better, but it doesn't usually gain you a whole lot of good friends, only nasty ones who make catty remarks about you behind your back.

This is right on. The last bit of course applies to women in general; just all the more so for trans women who transition after their teen years.
