& what is your prefered method of delivery?
I used to take Estrace but when I started filling at Wal Mart it was generic estradiol from Barr Labs. Back when I first started I had a big battle of wills with my doctor over Dr. Reddys Dutas, she had her bloomers twisted because it's from India and she wanted me to buy Avodart for 5x as much. Since then Dr. Reddys has started supplying lots of generic drugs in us pharmacies, including two non hrt drugs that she's prescribed.
So yeah anyway sublingual estradiol is all I've ever tried, but I really want to do weekly injections. I'll be back in the docs office in February and I'll ask about it then.
estrodial and by transdermal patch do to age
Well back in the late 70's / early 80's it was premarin (taken with a side dose of provera)
But after I had been post-op for about 15 years I started to think, for some reason, that the premarin and provera might be doing nasty things to my liver. So I switched to estradiol-valerate and dupheston for a while.
These days I take Estradiol-Hemihydrate in a tablet form. I am still on a cyclic dose of Progesterone though - only now I am taking Uterogestan - (Prometrium) which is much nicer than any other combination that I have been on.
I'm rapidly coming up on 50 though and starting to have to argue my corner with the doctor about not coming off the stuff - Their argument is that I should now be almost postmenopausal - and therefore the HRT should be discontinued as it would be with a natal woman.
Estradiol in pill form, sublingual. Cycle with Progesterone creme.
Janet
I'm gonna do:
Estrogen- Estradiol Valerate "Delestrogen" - (injection)
Anti-androgen- "Aldactone" (oral)
Progesterone- either "Prometrium" or "Microgest (generic)" (oral, but only doing small doses 'cause too much of it could inhibit my estrogen injection)
XX,
Rachel
Drinking the blood of women. >:-) Kidding!
Aged in French oak barrels and served on the rocks in a single old fashioned glass. ... Though I don't believe that's actually an option yet. Keepin' the dream alive! ;D
(actually the only kind I've ever been on is the estradiol patch so it would be hard to form much of a comparative perspective for me.)

Yummy, my fav!
I do estradiol sublingually...... seems to work .... :-*
I did the sublingual thing for about 9 months then switched to Delestrogen IM once a week. There's a bit of a mini-pms on the last day usually where suddenly I find myself hating everyone and everything, followed by a feeling of exhaustion and submission to my fate ,and occasionally hot flashes. LOL. Fun. But it's still better than having to remember that pill...also spiro of course, would like to start progesterone soon. One nice thing about the pill though, it had an anti-depressant effect for me that I only get the first 4 days or so with IM.
I like estradiol valerate orally. Progynova are like snacks. I think the last time Estrofem got me going was when I disolved it in vodka.
;) none.
Pre-op, my preference was always for the injection but my doctor refused to give it to me. He gave me the pills.
Post-op, I'm stuck with the pills for life.

Hi Jeannette,
May I ask why you are stuck taking pills for life, being post-operative?

Because my doctor feels that I've got to be on E to maintain healthy hormone levels since I don't produce it naturally or else I'll become menopausal before the age of 30. No good. My dosage's changed post-op though & I'm no longer on the androcur (the anti-androgen med)
I meant, why can't you get the injections? That's what your original post 'sounded' like, that for some reason you couldn't do injectibles, and was somehow related to being post-op.... lol.. nevermind.....

Sorry for misunderstanding you. Ah he won't do it. It's his preference, the way he works. <shrug>
Estrogen: Injectable Estradiol Valerate (Progynon) or Ethinyl Estradiol (but too expensive, works very fast but gives heavy headache & too dangerous)
Anti-Androgen: Spiro (Aldactone)
Progesterone (Utrogestan)
Finasteride (Proscar), craving for Dutasteride (Dutas) but can't have it here and too expensive to import.
Estradiol gel (Sandrena), reputed to be safer than pills for older transitioners. Applied to my lower abdomen or thighs daily. Have also used patches but had a problem with keeping them on.
Injectable Delestrogen, Love it, Every two weeks.
I started on premarin and did the patch. The patch really kick started my breast development, but made my skin on my back break out from the adhesive.
Well I used to really enjoy chatting with the OP while my estradiol dissolved. Where oh where is my Tia Isabella :(
That's what I'm wondering also Becca.
I like sublingual generic estradiol from Barr Labs.
It leaves my breath minty-fresh!
I'm on progynova but I'm interested in trying the patches. I'm becoming increasingly concerned about my liver :S With taking so many meds.
I am still trying different things and I still can't get the right fat distribution but over the years ethinyestrodial is about the best one so far for me.

When you are post-op you don't need a heck of a lot of E. The reason for not using IM estrogen valerate is that it's hard to get a low enough dose that is consistent. Basically, just hard to maintain....
