Title: How long did you grow?
Post by: Carson on November 24, 2009, 04:37:01 PM
When after you started testosterone did you start and stop growing (if you ever grew) like hands feet, shirt sizes and pant sizes. I will be starting T around christmas time which is usually when I get all my new clothes and I am wondering if I should wait a while and then buy clothes because I don't want to buy all new clothes and then grow out of everything.

Your upper body is going to get bulkier and if you have a lot of fat on your hips/butt, your pants will fall off.

This will probably all take more than a month.

I'm 35 (olld man lol) and my feet have grown nearly a whole size and i've only been on T for 3 months. My hands have got bigger, and finally i am starting to lose the fat off my butt and hips, but I'm thinking this might take a wee while.

ok, thanks, unfortunately that's what I was afraid of.

I started outgrowing some shirts (smaller non-stretchy button-ups) at 4 months...  The smaller T-shirts are OK still, but they've turned into shoulder-and-chest-hugging T's instead of baggy T's (which I prefer).

I'm still buying new clothes. I guess my example isn't typical, since T made me able to lose copious amounts of weight, but it took at least 4 months for me for fat to begin to redistribute. I was on a full dose from the start, and started at 25, so there really weren't any complicating factors. My head didn't grow until about 6 months (or at least that's when I noticed it), and my hands didn't reach their current size for almost a year. I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but if you buy new clothes, don't buy a lot of them. Your body will (hopefully) go through some pretty massive changes, so you need to be prepared for that.

I've been on HRT a little over a year, and it seems (I hope) my feet have finally leveled out in size (I just bought a new pair of Docs, it'll be a pain in the arse if I have to replace these again) -- when I got new boots this weekend, I had the guy size my feet, and in my case, my feet haven't gotten longer, just wider -- from a UK5 to a UK5-W.

At my age (28) and lacking pre- and post-HRT x-rays of the growth plates in my long bones, it's hard to say how much, if any of the nearly two inches in height I've gained this last year is from HRT or simply a correction of spinal, but I seem to have evened off at a little under 5'2" from 4'11.75" last year.

I've noticed no real size increase in hands or head, but a bit of a brow ridge is becoming discernible.

The, umm....  "junk", though, grew a lot.  It kind of jiggles a little in the shower.

So your head grows too? Interesting.

Your skull thickens. All of the bones thicken, that's just the effect of testosterone.

Quote from: Kvall on November 25, 2009, 05:38:18 AMI was 18 when I started and I haven't noticed any extra height, but then again I pretty much haven't gotten any taller since I was 14. Hoping for a lucky late growth spurt eventually... just an inch or two, please... ;)

A lot of people get another inch or two between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two, anyway.  Serious.  I shot up nearly another three inches at around nineteen -- from 4'9" to 4'11.75".

I've been on T for about 4 1/2 months now. I've noticed massive fat loss in my thighs and upper legs. My waist and stomach haven't seemed to gain any extra fat yet. My shoulders and upper arms have increased quite a bit- which is interesting since I already had wide shoulders before T. Because of this I've noticed my shirt sleeves and length to "shorten", but my shirts still fit just fine (were L men's to begin with). I must be losing some weight because my pants waist is smaller making my pants a little looser- but nothing a belt can't handle. My butt has, unfortunately, not lost much fat. :-\

My feet have gotten some bigger but not too much. I've always had a tendency to buy shoes a little bigger in size than my true foot size because my feet are wide and I've noticed my shoes getting more snug lately. My hands and fingers have gotten bigger but that might be water retention.

The most interesting thing is I may have gotten taller. I haven't measured but some of my work pants that I used to have to roll up I don't anymore and I'm not wearing the waist up anymore than I used too. I haven't measured my height yet.

Most of my clothes still fit fine or can be solved by wearing a belt so I think if you buy clothes for Christmas you'll still be able to wear them for awhile if not always. I've wore M and L men's sizes for a long time now, but if you're small you may notice a big difference in your clothes.

I'm guessing the answer to this is "yes," but can your wrists get substantially bigger?  I'm five weeks on testosterone, and before, when I wrapped my thumb and middle finger around my wrist they would meet at around one joint in on the fingers--now I can't make my fingertips even touch.  No weight gain, either!  Just curious if anyone else experienced it as noticeably as I have!

See above post. Testosterone causes all bones to thicken.

Ah, I see. I believe I've heard something to that effect before but worded differently. People said that their facial bone structure changed but I didn't know to what effect.

I guess I was talking more about rate, as opposed to whether it would happen at all

The facial differences between the sexes are in the facial shape (males have longer faces) and the size of features. The change in your face that causes you to look male is simply the jaw thickening, the cheekbone enlarging, nose thickening and brow becoming more prominent.

I'm aware, I do study the human skull. ;)

But I supposed I should have figured testosterone did all that, and maybe I just wasn't connecting the dots correctly. At any rate, thanks for informing me.

Growth is pretty much impossible if your growth plates have fused. At the very best in such a scenario, if you were hunching over and stand tall after the fact, you might gain an inch or two because your spine isn't compacted.

The only way to know if they have fused or not is to get xrays I believe.

Getting close to 6 months here now, started in late June.

My "little guy" is much bigger, you'll notice that right away and it just keeps on growing, we're talking like an inch here, wow.

I've gained weight, while not gaining any more body fat, that may actually be down.

I outgrew my "girl pants" my waist got bigger by a couple of inches. Had to get men's pants and a new belt.

My jaw's squarer, nose a bit bigger, brow ridge a bit more prominent, and interestingly, as my face becomes more male, I can see an indentation, like from a very old injury, on my forehead. Triangle-shaped. It doesn't match any of the whacks I remember, so it must be from young childhood, I was a crash-and-burn kind of kid.

Most of my t-shirts are "muscle shirts" now and the extra shoulder mass takes 'em up and makes most of them too short to tuck in and stay in.

Your smell will change. How do I describe this delicately? Exit fish, enter cheese.

I've been getting bigger shoes, and they fit me fine. I'm overjoyed to find a pair of England-made Docs, used but you can't wear these things out, European size 40 and I've been size 37 for years. They're a tiny bit big but fine.

Your voice will change, mine felt "boomy" for a long time but my guy friends kept saying "No, it's the same" but friends I haven't seen for a while really notice the difference. I'm getting some squeaks too, very annoying. My voice is like a teenage guy's right now.

You'll get more hair, and in more places. I'm just starting to get a "happy trail" now, my head hair is coarser, facial hair coming along slowly, most people get more hair coming along than I have, some FTMs are quite hairy.

You'll get more horny, even if you're already a pretty horny person, you'll get more horny. You'll gain a new appreciation of porn lol. No need to jump into the deep end here though, just a good make-out scene is as hot as anything.

If you're under 25 you may just grow height-wise. I know I put on another inch or so in the Army, that good Army food (don't laugh it WAS) at age 20 or so, T may help you grow more than otherwise if you're lucky enough to start this young.

I notice my endurance is up even though I haven't been training for endurance at all. That's cool. Strength is up too, I notice from lifting things like electric car batteries, bags of feed, big ol' disgusting bags of trash, etc lately.

In the excellent book The Testosterone Files, the author mentions the big changes being in the first 2 years but changes still showing up for many years.

Unrelated but Alex, if you have some before and current pics of yourself I'd like to see them.

Actually, it doesn't matter if it's unrelated since the original question has already been answered.

My current avatar is recent, end of October, and I forgot to mention, just recently my girl-hips went away. The muscles just over the hip are apparent, like with any semi in shape guy.

I can only post avatar pics here so that's what you get.
