For Baby Dee, revisiting her childhood pain through song has been a powerful means to escape from it

We may never know exactly what went on inside that house, but it was unpleasant enough that for years afterwards Baby Dee had nightmares about her childhood home.

"A lot of people have their end-of-the-world scenario," says the singer, pianist, songwriter, and harpist, reached by telephone on the day after a show in Bern, Switzerland. "You know what I mean? For some it's the tsunami, or the big fire; everybody's got their version of that. And for me, my recurring end-of-the-world dream consisted of me standing at the front door of that house and the door was open, and the end of the world consisted of me walking through the door into the house. That was like the end of everything; the worst possible thing that could happen to myself and the rest of humanity was for me to walk through that door!"
