GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A Greenville man traded in his high heels and dress for a prison jump suit Wednesday morning after being arrested for impersonating a police officer at Haywood Mall.
Authorities arrested 45-year-old David Burton after interviewing several witnesses who told real officers he approached them in the mall.
A mall employee told investigators Burton started speaking with her while she was at a kiosk. She told detectives she asked him to leave her alone, but he kept talking to her.
In a sworn statement, the woman said Burton asked her if she remembered him from last week when he was wearing a blue dress at the mall. She said Burton then told her his name and said he was undercover police officer with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office assigned downtown to get prostitutes off the streets.
