A TRANSVESTITE was gang- raped in a Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court holding cell minutes before his court appearance yesterday.
Court staff said the 29- year-old man, due to appear on a theft charge, was severely traumatised and was taken to Dora Nginza Hospital.
The victim earlier shared a truck with his alleged attackers from St Albans to the New Law Court, where their cases were due to be heard.
This is unbelievable. How can this happen in the holding cell for the court? In view, apparently, of a lot of people? I suppose that in Zambia standards may be a little different. But this is a disgrace.

I think this took place in South Africa. Zambia is a land-locked nation, and Port Elizabeth.... well, is a port. The url ends in .za which represents South Africa and there is a Port Elizabeth in that country.
All of this is important because South Africa has a rape culture. 27% of men there admit to having raped, with a large percentage admitting to multiple rapes. They can do this with impunity, because even if the victim presses charges, the conviction rate is only 4%.

Thanks for the clarification!
