Auditory processing disorder?
I was misdiagnosed with ADD in my mid-teens and later on they found out it was APD. Nothing has been done about it since, but I was curious if anyone else has it? Or knows any exercises I can do?
Also, do you find that written information takes longer to process, especially with numbers? I think it's easier to absorb written information if it's in a writing style to my liking, otherwise I need visual aids.
All I can say is, me too. Didn't know it had a name tho. School just said I was a visual learner.

I had to dig up the name for it myself, but I remember them saying I had it. I guess it's a rather obscure disorder and understandable if it's hard to pin point.
My Uncle has an hard time reading numbers! He's more of an visual learner...But I don't know if he has APD or not and in all actuality, this thread is the first time I've heard about APD...So I guess even though I'm on school break--I'm still learning things everyday! HAHA! ;)
I haven't ever been diagnosed, but yes, I have that and dyslexia. Going through the list of symptoms there is little doubt on either one of them actually.
I can read the same simple sentence 5 times and just not get it to click. Same with people talking. It all just depends on what is going on around me or in my head at the time.
School would have been A LOT easier had they/I known about it. It all got me into a lot of trouble over the years.

Numbers have been my bane from the moment I had anything to do with them.
It's always good to learn.

I'm better with written stuff, but sometimes it can be too much to absorb.
And I agree, I wish I had known instead of struggling for 12 years.
I have it too. Someone can talk to me, and I can hear them, but I can't understand what they are saying. The worst is when they just repeat it louder to me -- I have to sit there and explain to them that they have to say it a different way for me to understand it 'cause my brain isn't processing what they just said.
It can be very frustrating! There's not much they can do about it, although.
I'm also dyslexic. I also have ADD/ADHD and BPD. Fun times. They ADD meds help with paying attention, especially if reading or doing something... but the hearing is it's own thing and sometimes it just doesn't work. I also have a thing were I can't remember how to say simple things from time to time... for example, I'll forget what a "table" is called -- a table, of course, but I'll forget that term. That can be very frustrating, and I've learned to describe objects to people if I forget what they are called.... ie, the long flat wooden thingy with four legs in the kitchen.
I forget what the term for the speaking thing is, but there's a term for it.
My friends are used to me not remembering stuff, as well as not being able to understand what they say sometimes and know they have to rephrase it in hopes my brain gets the block out.
At least your friends understand.
It's so frustrating, though... I wish I could process it all like everyone else. Makes for getting a job very difficult.

Oh my god it's so obnoxious. I would be an accountant or a programmer or something, except, I cannot god damn read or repeat or process numbers. I only realized I had it about two years ago, and I'm slowly getting to where I'll read 21943, and tell myself in my head voice "21349", but still cognitively remember the way the number displayed, visually, and be able to repeat it that way. But it's so hard.
I'm brilliant, but I'm absolutely frustrated beyond belief by anything involving math, and I am too paranoid to trust my calculations on anything. Goodbye potential science or money career!

I hear you. I don't think I have Dyscalculia, but I can't subtract numbers, handle money, add odd big numbers, multiply in my head... makes for a pain in the arse when it comes to getting a job. I never trust myself with my calculations either.
Ah, wouldn't life and careers be so much easier if we didn't have problems with any of this stuff?
I have Sensory Integration Disorder, which can have some of the same symptoms as APD, along with other fun stuff.
