Today had to been one of the worst days of my life, and it just gets worst. Okay, this morning I was getting ready for work, and then I felt pretty good. Then I went to work, and then crash into a tree because the brakes didn't work on me and it was icy. I went home because I don't have a cell phone (I can't really afford one right now), and then I went to work because my grandma took me, and then the cops appeared at work ten minutes later.
I receive four tickets; three misdemeanors because I left the scene of the crime and failed to report property damage and a civic infraction I just don't know what to do, and I guess I was trying to seek help because I didn't have a cell phone. I couldn't just stay there in the cold and the snow.
I just really hate life right now, and now all the money I saved for is going to be gone through this all. The car was taken to the pound, and is totally wreck; it cost $200 to release it. I can't drive it now.
My family feels bad for me and all, which is probably the only thing comforting... But just a few days ago I fought with my mom about my secrets.
Can it get anyway worse? I don't know what to do anymore. I have failing grade in one class, and its because of this job. I don't know how I am going to pass the class.. Now all my hard work is gone. And I am left with a wreck record.... I don't know if I will have to face jail time either... I don't feel happy at all, and there's nothing I can do about it.
And the only reason why I am working is because I am saving up for college and stuff, now I am behind. I just saved all my money, and I guess its good that I saved it since I am going to spend it all on this now.
I am not a lawyer, but if they were tickets, then they ceded you for traffic violations. I don't know what the civil infraction is, but it is probable for hitting the tree (private property). The best thing to do is to go to court and explain the situation. Maybe the lawyers here have a better take on it.
I find it very doubtful that you would end up in jail. You might have your drivers license suspended and face fines, but that you can work out with the court. I have been there with accidents. One was for DUII. But the only time I was in jail, was in the drunk tank.
I am sorry, Hon. But it was an accident. As for the car, you might see if they can junk it for you.
Huggles,
Janet
Property can be fixed lucky no one is hurt. Did you not think to go to the first house and ask for help? Our society is falling apart when people depend on cell phones and money only. People are the most important thing. You can take a class over no big deal. You can go to a community college first rather than a high price school. Start to think slower and more people oriented rather than money and success. It is the quality of life not quantity.
^ It's still high school, my last year. And it's a required class.
I rather have a few broken bones than have tickets, it's the truth. Bones heal, tickets don't go away.
But I have a sucky life before this, it's just sucks completely.
"I rather have a few broken bones than have tickets, it's the truth. Bones heal, tickets don't go away"

I have gotten over 40 tickets in my life time most for speeding they are not a big deal and they do go away after 3 years. You are a young driver and not used to icy roads. Many people just do not drive on ice the risk is too great. If you go to court and talk to the judge better yet have a lawyer they probably will dismiss the tickets and send you to a driving class. It will still cost you some but it will not be on your record.
I don't think these are the same as speeding tickets, it's more like I left the place of the accident and fail to contact the cops quick enough.
Say someone stole your car.

It does not matter. I had tickets for driving without a license that was dismissed even though my privilege to drive was suspended. They want to scare you and impress on you what is the right thing to do. It seems you do not take things seriously. You must rearrange your priorities. Get a lawyer.

"Say someone stole your car."

Dumb advice it will only cause you more grief to lie.
Lieing never solved anything. Facing up to the truth is the only way.

It's beliefs like these that destroy lives.
QuoteIt's beliefs like these that destroy lives.
There are some things more important than living especially when it is with guilt.
I concede. Just pay the bills then, even when it will delay your transition>.<
Well I don't care about bills, I just care about my record and license. I have 1k saved up so far, I think I can pay it off. That 1k was saved up for my dreams... but I'll make it up somehow.
When I crashed I realize that I been living my life horribly, since I could had died in it. The car was so damage with the engine popping out and wires all damage and the glass was cracked completely. I had my seat belt, and I wasn't hurt by it.
But when I was walking out of the car, I decided I am going to live my life the right way (it's the wrong way for most people though). If I died right now I regret my life completely, it's not who I am, so after everything clears up I'm doing what I should do. After this winter is over with, I am going to be fine... better than fine probably.
The hardest thing is telling my mother, but who really cares because it's my life.
I'm glad you came through to some conclusive insight, Megan. Good luck!
Thanks
I hope the best happens.
You need to concentrate on the current situation and school. It is Sunday in the States. Monday try to contact a lawyer and just talk to them. I think you have decided what is right for you.
Janet
often for a young driver without a record they will let you do something like take a driving course in lieu of having a ticket on your record. I know it seems like a big deal now and it really does suck, but if you have gained something from it then it isn't all completely bad. I hope it works out for you.
It's just ruin now, I can't even self talk to myself that's its okay.
I am looking at 90 days in jail and over 1k in fines.
Get a lawyer and go to court. I doubt that they will give you the max, which is what you looking at on the tickets.
Please stop worrying. Your life is not ruined, Hon. Trust me, I know. It just seems like it. And yes you will become upset, nervous stomach and even thing else. But you will survive this, Sweety.
Janet
Megan,
Take a deep breath now girl. Now take another one. OK. Your life is not ruined, just a car. I've beat more then one car to death; it happens. Almost everyone has had mishaps on the street, particularly on ice. Stop beating yourself up about it, but you are doing right by reviewing what you might have done wrong. Janet is right - contact an attorney. Many will discuss the matter with you with little or no fee for the first time. Do that and I bet things will look much better. Do NOT report your car as stolen, or any other dodge. That will get you in much deeper - like a felony false report charge. One thing I'd look at: if it was icy, is the city negligent in not promptly or properly clearing it. Keep track of the condition of the street.
Keep us posted hon, and call a lawyer first thing, certainly before you have any more contact with the authorities.

A high school student in a single car accident hits a tree after sliding off an icy road, and 90 days in jail came up? Either someone is trying to scare you or there is more to the story.
Just pay the thing and move on. A lawyer is going to cost you just as much if not more, and I don't think you get public defenders for traffic stuff. It seems like a lot but 1k is nothing in the grand scheme, so I'd say just pay it and be done with it.
Unless there is more. Did you hit a pedestrian on the way to the tree? Leave someone in the car? Why are they threatening you with jail...

megan i dont even want to admit how many traffic violations i got when i was your age guess what it passes learn from your mistake and move on 1000 dollars at your age seams a lot its not really it isnt. jail time on single car accident for leaving the scene possible most likely not gonna happen.... cost benifit factor to society not there in short it would cost more to house you then you would pay in fines most likely 1 year suspension or some other restitution. if the fines come out to more then you can afford ask for a payment plan judges grant these daily.
good luck hun and drive more carefully
jessica
I would think that the jail time is just there to scare you into paying the money, which I'm guessing they do need.
Do not lie and say the car was jacked, they will find out it was not, and then you have a charge for filing a false felony report, that will be bad. Pay the money.
They aren't threatening me with jail yet
But I look up the tickets and it's a possibility based that they are mismeademors.
I don't think I'm facing jail time since I spoke to a friend (who is a cop). And she told me that he's an ->-bleeped-<- and didn't have to give me all that and that he didn't have nothing else to do with his time. He went to my house and to my job within 10 minutes after I walk off.
But she said it's unlikely since it's traffic violations. The worse is 6 months probation.
I'm getting a mechanic right now to verify it was the brakes that broke, since that's how I slid combine with ice.
And the cop that gave me the tickets called me up and told me he's going to fix everything and try to remove my tickets but not all. That it's going to be a life lesson and that everything going to be okay.
But I don't believe him (I didn't tell him that), but I guess Ill just wait till court date.
That would be your best bet. And have your mechanic put it in writing. The officer may not even show up to court.
