NEW DELHI — It's worked for thousands of singletons the world over and now India's transsexuals are hoping Internet dating can help their marginalised community find love.

A new site offers to help people born as men but living as women find husbands in a country where marriage remains the bedrock of society and gender and sexuality are still conservatively defined.

"Many men are attracted to transgender women, but when it comes to commitment they don't want to do it," the founder of the website, Kalki, who uses one name, explained to AFP.

Having tried the sites available, I don't think that their will be happy.  I never got a hit one, then again I couldn't catch a man with a steak round my neck.

Janet, they seem to be having same luck that women on most dating sites have. According to the founder of the website:
Quote
We have received more than 400 emails from all over the world responding to the website launch. We have received more than 200 proposals. Almost 150 are one liner and two liner proposals. More than 50 proposals are very genuine.

It seems they have to wade through a lot of dross.  :-\

Kalki Subramanian is the director of a transgender advocacy organization called the Sahodari Foundation (http://sahodari.org/index.html).  The dating website is just one of its initiatives and the plan is for the dating website to diversify:

QuoteThough Thirunangai.com is presently transsexual women's matrimonial website, in the future, the site will be a portal featuring jobs and careers, government announcements, policies and welfare schemes for transgenders, news from the Tamilnadu Transgender welfare board, information regarding Sexual Reassignment Surgery and news and videos related to transgender community
