Title: Skin Flap
Post by: bahatim on January 02, 2010, 08:33:58 PM
I was wondering what experiences anyone has had with silver nitrate?  I have a flap of skin that is out of place (6 months post SRS).  It gets irritated and has been bleeding on nearly a daily basis since September.  I'm not sure if there's just something different about the way that I heal, because I also needed silver nitrate when I had my orchie.

Anyhow, for some reason I'm so much more nervous about letting anyone put it down there now.  Somehow in my mind it seems so much more is at stake, but I'm sure I'm blowing that out of proportion.

Any advice?

If it's persistently bleeding something like oxidized cotton would be better, or a similar hemostatic agent, maybe a powdered wound dressing http://www.imed.com/shop/detail.cfm/sku/K4745/S/637216 (http://www.imed.com/shop/detail.cfm/sku/K4745/S/637216)

(the obvious question after that would be why the problem in clotting factor?)

I know a few that had to have silver nitrate done and there does not appear to be any long term side effects at all.

YMMV of course.
