Title: New Shoes
Post by: Hannah on January 05, 2010, 09:48:00 PM
So it's finally time to trade in my shoes for a new pair, and I thought I'd invest in something nice. I've never bought shoes online before, but I know how Nikes fit me so I'm not worried about it. I picked Nike specifically because I like the Nike+ipod system. Anyway, you get to pick your own colors and embroidery! I wear a lot of pink and black, especially when exercising.

What do you think, too gaudy? I know white would prolly look better, but I walk a LOT and for exercise shoes I don't want to have to be constantly cleaning them so I picked a black base. I wish the pink was lighter, though. I'm torn on this and with my tendancy to dress like a ->-bleeped-<- clown I'm trying to be more careful.

I might get a second pair of pink and white just for lounging, but white is so hard to keep clean that I doubt I'd wear them out much.

I have been think of getting those new Skechers Shape ups.

At a $110, it might be a bit.

Those are cute but I'm buying Nikes because they work with my iPod to track my work. Besides, I tried a pair of shape-ups on a while back and I don't see running in them. Every time I go back to the Nike page I'm more and more sold, but I'll wait until tomorrow to order them so I get a look with a fresh pair of eyes.

There are cheaper customizable pairs as well, I just liked this particular design.

I did not look, but I imagine Nike does.  How do they get them to work together Becca.

They do. You like those embroidered tounges don't you  :D I dunno why I think it's such a cool idea to have my name on my shoes, lol

And no one can say they are their, unless the have the same name.  ;)

That would be cool.  Does that cost a lot for them to do that.

I like the color combo but the pink might be too much, since you said you have a tendency to look like a "->-bleeped-<- clown". Haven't tried to customize that pair yet can you back off on the pink in a few areas. I agree the black is great for not having to clean and looks really good. I have bought a pair of the custom shoes they are so cool, had my initials put on them and everything.

Do they come in size 13 though??

Yes they come in size 13 lol. You start with the basic shoe and build your own materials and colors. I'm going shopping tomorrow for some new sweats as I have shrunk out of everything I own, so if I can find some decent outfits tomorrow I'll go ahead and order them. I'm gonna swing by the Nike store and check for sales first, but I'm pretty jazzed about the tounge embroidery.

Oh yeah, it's a little sensor that goes in the shoe and sends mileage and calorie usage blah blah to the iPhone/pod. It's pretty neat, and helps me stay on track because my mind tends to wander and I forget how long I've been out.

Wait so what you're saying is your shoes are in cahoots with your cell phone?
Since when was it the future! :P

Yes, Apple could sieze control of me at any moment!

I love their things so much, the iPod+Nike thing is just one of a long list. One of my most favorite things is a program you show your less intelligent friends. You type in their cell number, and it does a big dramatic map search and then "pinpoints" them. The implication of course is that Apple can track them everywhere, when in fact it's just showing the location of the screen the astounded people are looking at.

Gee... the "Get Smart" shoe phone wasn't such a silly idea after all  ;D

That sounds awesome, but it would have stop me cheating in the school cross country event. They would have found me cutting across the field

But seriously you design the shoe on the web? or did I misunderstand?

Probably not in Australia as yet. :-\

if you wore them with jeans they would probably not be over the top, even in hot pink. I just love my Converse Chuck Taylors, which you can also customize all kinds of ways. I got the light pink ones with baby blue laces lol

In my work pace, there is a young girl who is tall, slim and pretty. Moreoever, her fashion sense is admirable, and her makeup is always graceful. She is probably 20 yrs younger than me, and I had never a chance to chat with her. Her fashion is usually moderate, but sometimes she does wear casuals like other young girls here.

Today I saw her wearing athletic sneakers which is similar to the ones Becca shows here. The color was luminous and yellowish green. Strangely they fit very well with her black long coat.

I also usually wear athletic sneakers at my workplace. The ones I love were from Payless shoes about 5 years ago in the U.S. I got two pairs of the same style, but the one is sky, and the other is red. The cost was just ca. $20 per pari.

They are now worn out, and I tried to purchase similar items when I visited the U.S., but could not find any longer.

The red sneakers seem to match well with long jeans, and the sky ones with my short pants.

Did anybody see sneakers of the similar style in the U.S.?

I've only ever bought skate shoes for sneakers, they are cheap durable very stylish and there are millions of different shapes and styles. Most of the female range are awesome. But the guys ones can be androgynous!!

A pair of shoes lasts me 6 months tops.  That's $30 discontinued Sketchers at the outlet store or $150 Nikes from their flagship store.  Given that, I'll continue to buy whatever is cheap.

Well for me, that's just it. I buy the more expensive shoes and they last a year easily.
I always work on the premise that you get what you pay for but ironically in the end it costs us all about the same.

This is why I only buy skate shoes, they are designed to handle the rough harsh treatment of wood covered in sandpaper etc.. they're the only shoes that last me for eons!! My second newest skate shoes I have are six years old and still going strong, a bit scruffy but good for gardening etc lol.

If I am going to workout in shoes I spend money on them. I can get them to last for a while as I am using them inside and they need to fit right so I do not hurt myself. For work I just buy the cheapest (steel toed) shoes I can find as they get trashed and all I am doing is walking in them.

The last time I went shopping for shoes, they were having a "buy one pair, get the 2nd for half price" sale on some. There was one particular pair of Adidas running shoes I liked. White & silver. I just got 2 of that style. It's been several months. The pair I actually run in is getting pretty used looking, but the pair I wear to do whatever is pretty much good as new. Strategy heh.

I've tried all sorts of sneaker/tennis/running shoes and it never seems to change.  I can cover (because I used to do this with a pedometer, so I know) 25-35 miles in a 17 hour shift.  A lot of that is indoors, up stairs and all.  But the outdoor stuff, the truck ramps, the street and all, it's hard on shoes because the shoes are taking a lot of the weight and stopping energy.  Add to that the fact that I walk or bike most everywhere and that's not a recipe for longevity. And though often they will blow out at the seams around the ball of the foot, most of the time I just plain use out all the rubber/plastic whatever in the sole, which is crappy to find out if you don't know before it rains.

After a week of a heat wave (35C plus) it broke this morning. I was in the car park. It was raining (had forgotten what it was). Yep no umbrella; why carry one in the car in the driest state in the driest continent. Oh well not to worry; Lets just get walking, Yep there is a hole in both Nikes. Hadn't noticed that all week. Is there anything quite so unpleasant than wet socks at the begining of the days work?

No actually.  I can be OK soaked from the ankles on up, but when my feet get wet it's just yucck.

I don't wear shoes out, I just replace them when they go out of style.

...I really should get out more.
