article (http://jweissdiary.blogspot.com/2006/11/us-federal-bill-for-gender-identity.html)
"Democratic and Republican members of the US House and Senate will introduce a new version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, a bill consistently introduced into Congress for the past two decades to revise Title VII to include sexual orientation. However, this time it will include protection on the basis of gender identity".

So if (if i say)passed transsexual peoples will be protected?

Apparently so, but it sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?
tinkerbell :icon_chick:
As they sort of say, "I'll believe it when I'm protected by it".

I have now read through the blog, and find some of what I read there quite off the wall.
Any other resources to really tell me some factual stuff? I found this to be at best projection and again political babble that holds little merit. Help me out here I would like to read some credible material on the whole bill issue at hand.
Peace
Taylor

Hmmmm...I am not quite sure...but I found this Willy Wonka's line on the web...
"There's no earthly way of knowing... Which direction we are going... There's no knowing where we're rowing... Or which way the river's flowing... Is it raining?... Is it snowing?... Is a hurricane a-blowing?... Not a speck of light is showing... So the danger must be growing... Are the fires of hell a-glowing?... Is the grisly reaper mowing?... Yes, the danger must be growing... 'Cause the rowers keep on rowing... And they're certainly not showing... Any signs that they are slowing!"It could easily apply to this thread too... ;D

I'll see it when I believe it.

Can I have a bill number please? I have a human rights attorney that would like to take a look at it and I would also like to read the bill. The number is how I can access it. Thanks for anyone that may be able to provide that.

Taylor

Sorry I do not know either. I was given this topic by a friend of mine. I'll ask him on Monday.

Already there are more than a dozen states with transgender non-discrimination laws in effect. I am fortunate enough to live in one of those states. So if a quarter of the states have already passed these laws I see some hope the US will do so someday. Conservatives won't always make up the majority of lawmakers. The pendulum will swing back and then is when we need to push this bill onto the floor for a vote. If we are patient and wise with how and when we promote it I think it will pass.
Julie
I believe it said in the article that it would probably not pass as the Republicans are in control. So, I don't know why we would get excited about this. It is nice that we were added, but it looks likes it will go into the circular file.
Sheila
I hope I'm wrong.

You said that you read the blog but did you read the Washington Blade article (http://www.washblade.com/2006/10-27/news/national/enda.cfm) that prompted the blog entry?
also noted within the blog is the 2004 Washington Blade editorial by Chris Crain (http://washblade.com/2004/8-13/view/editorial/) may be of interest.

Bay Area Reporter Story (http://www.ebar.com/news/article.php?sec=news&article=1302)
I like the comments in the article. I hope it has some substance in the bill. They are not releasing it until others will come on board, but some of the trans activists have agreed that it is good. Like the article said there are laws in effect now that let business have a dress code and that there is no discrimination for Gender expression. I see more large companies coming in line before the bill will even hit congress. There are a lot of companies now that have it in their policies. We are out there and we are educating the public by not making a big fuss. We only want to live our lives as normal as anyone else does.
Sheila
There isn't a bill number yet because it won't be reintroduced until January or February. It was not introduced in this Congress.
The House might not be a big problem, but Ted Kennedy opposes transgender inclusion in the Senate.
Robyn
Hi All,
I have been out of town for several days and am just reading this. I appreciate all your help and if a bill number does come to be please update in here! I will do the same if I come across it in the future.
Peace,

PS I will read the referenced sites above, thanks!
