Title: slow toss out
Post by: thea63 on January 13, 2010, 08:18:03 AM
I think I've been going thru a perge of worldly things. How to deal with knowing you should try to sell and get value for them but not really caring about them. Its like list on criag's, ump no takers? them just dump them at local thrift. God, I just need some goals, I really starting to feel so shallow about life in general. It helps to ramble but....scthea

In some weird counterpoint to American culture, but dead on in line with Buddhist thought, I've found the less I own, the happier I am.

Give it away, give it away, give it away now!

Ain't that the truth!

The older I get, the less stuff that I want to have lying around, and the happier I am with what I choose to keep.

Amen to that sisters, I have been working through that process myself. I woke up one morning and after my coffee cleared my head, I thought, I have way too much crap, I mean "stuff".

As much as I like my gadgets (well mainly just the computer and things that go with it) I really do like breaking free from it.  Back in high school I did a 10 week cross-country bike trip where we slept in tents 6/7 days a week at campsites or on the side of the road.  In retrospect it was pretty awesome (hated it at the time) and it really gives a sense of how much stuff we cart around just because someone on TV or in a magazine tells us we need it.  Basically all you need is a sleeping bag, 2 sets of clothes + outerwear, water bottle, and hygiene stuff.  Everything else is just a curious distraction.

it's so funny though, but ever since I heard this skit some 15 some odd years ago I always think of it when ever anyone calls "stuff" "->-bleeped-<-" or "crap" LOL

between carlin's Stuff skit and that A&E show, Hoarders I have pretty much thrown all my worldly possessions out. LOL
