Transsexual Heads Up: The Rise of Neurolaw

Plumbing the depths of the human heart and head to devise just criminal and civil justice systems has been a struggle since before the time of Hammurabi. Even with the methods and tools of modern times, discerning praise or blame often turns on the perceived truthfulness of the accused and the reliability of witnesses.

But what if a police officer could read a memory that betrays guilt? What if a jury could decide a defendent's guilt through mind reading? And what constitutes intent to commit murder? These are just some of the issues debated and reviewed in WIREs Cognitive Science.

The stakes are very high for transsexuals and anyone else that must establish credbility in a criminal or civil proceeding. As it is, accusations of deception by the police can hobble an individual's standing. What if neuroscience testimony comes under the control of traditional psychotherapists or media figures who deny the very existence of people born transsexual in the first place?

Hmmm!

A rather strange and disturbing article. But the site it's on is very interesting. Thanks!  :)

By the time the writers write it - and I'm pretty sure several have, starting with Harlen Ellison, the engineers will have made it possible.

As far as I'm concerned, this sort of thing will be the end of civilisation as we know it.

I've met many psychologists, psychiatrists and other in related fields. In a non-professional setting, each of these people is as affected by their own personal views, and intolerances as anyone else. professionally, each attempts to work within the guidelines of their ethics.

Oh yeah a bunch of stories have been written on this kind of stuff, I was thinking about how to write one with a TG angle without it being an overtly TG story

look on the bright side, politicians wouldn't be able to lie like hell anymore, just screw over their constituents openly...
