State Rep. Paul Scott, (R-Grand Blanc) recently announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination for Michigan's Secretary of State and released a list of his top four priorities.
This was among them:
I will make it a priority to ensure transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver's license in any circumstance
Of all the things a Secretary of State hopeful could focus on, instituting bigotry is what Scott decided ranked among his most important priorities? Amazingly, yes:

Michigan candidate's priority: "Transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver's license in any circumstance."

Paul Scott seems prepared to court controversy in his candidacy for Michigan Secretary of State.
In an announcement letter posted last week, Scott, a Republican state representative from Grand Blanc, includes this double-take-worthy bullet point:
"I will make it a priority to ensure transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver's license in any circumstance."

I just got an email from Michigan Messenger reporter Todd A. Heywood, who broke the story today about a Michigan secretary of state candidate targeting transgender people.
Just wanted to share with you the story I wrote for Michigan Messenger, which actually lead the Grand Rapids Press to write their piece-- without crediting Michigan Messenger. You'll notice that in an interview with me Scott goes MUCH further than anything noted in the GR Press story (incidentally, the Flint Journal, a sister site of GR Press, DID credit Messenger for breaking the story). It is also extremely important to note the political pundits sounding off on what this means for the 2010 election cycle. Scott has the backing of the social conservative wing, which recruited him to run in the first place.
