Hey I have a question for guys on T, does it do anything for cellulite? I know it's something that affects women more than men but I don't know if its hormonal or not. I have it and I hate it, I know I should just lose more weight and I am trying to work on that but I am just curious whether male hormones get rid of the stuff or if I will always have it.
As I understand it, greater subcutaneous fat is caused by estrogen. Fat doesn't really "move" but fat can be decreased in the old places and gained in the right places depending on hormonal balance.
Basically, get on T, work out, and even though it won't be instantaneous, it will decrease.
The evidence supporting any cures for cellulite is poor to say the least.
The evidence for causes is equally poor. Estrogen has been linked, but only because cellulite is more common in women. However, that can equally be explained by women having a layer of fat under their skin which men don't tend to have.
I'm sure cellulite has played no part in your decision to go on T. If it starts to clear then great. If it doesn't, try not to be too disappointed.
The reality is that, there are no proven cures for cellulite. People who make these claims are either trying to sell a cure or those that hope there are.
I've even read somewhere that reducing water intake might reduce it. This is absolute rubbish as well as being really dangerous.
Eat a healthy diet. Get enough exercise. Lots of water and fresh air. If nothing else, your mood will life sufficiently that something as trifling as your appearence will be of little importance.
With respect, you have a lot more on your plate to concern yourself with without worrying about cellulite.
Yeah, my appearance means a lot to me. I can't help it if I'm shallow, I just kind of am. And I know nobody will be interested in a man with cellulite. Most of it is on my butt and it just makes it look hidious. My butt is important to me :laugh:
I guess I was just being hopeful that the T might cure another of my dysphoria problems. I hope that Silver Fang is right!
Losing weight. The only way, as far as I can see. I had some cellulite on my rear and upper thighs. The stuff on my upper thighs has gone away; the rear is progressing slowly. Granted, I've been a couch potato for the past couple months and will continue to be one until I heal up some more.
Understand.
But as i said, healthy diet, exercise, pleanty of fresh air and water.
That is really the best treatment to be honest.
It's OK to be worried about your appearance. I apologise if I seemed to dismiss it.
Good health becomes a habit and in no time at all, everything seems to improve.
Actually yeah. I never thought about it, but I used to have it and now I don't. Weight-wise, I lost a lot of weight (30 lbs), but then I put 20 of it back on after being on T and I still don't have cellulite.
I had it at a lower weight than I am now, pre-T, and, like I said, don't have it now. I didn't notice it going, so can't give you a timeline or anything, but it does seem to have disappeared.

Everyone has fat in the same places, the question is how much of it.
With T, it will decrease here and increase there. It should disappear
A quick google search yields that women are more prone to cellulite: "The Rosenbaum study found that women have a much more irregular, discontinuous supporting skin matrix than men do so there is more opportunity for fat cells to extrude into the dermis area."
But of course, now we have to figure out if our "skin matrixes" change on T. Anyone?!

It does, don't worry :)
Hormones pretty much tell skin and other soft tissue how to behave, just be patient.
I had never heard of this question before starting T... but it's been on my mind the last week or so.
I basically force myself to look at my body in the mirror, methodically, as if I were checking over my car or something to that effect.
It's a part of my "keep realistic" and "learn to deal with it" pattern of behavior.
Anyway. It's coming up on 7 weeks on T now, and I can see a significant difference in my legs and bum area, everything's smoother, and more fit looking.
I have been eating well and getting exercise, yes, but not an aweful lot better than before T.
The only other change is T...
So, I've been looking in the mirror going "o.O? really?"
So, at least over here, I think it's entirely possible that T will smooth out the cellulite, which is great!
Never seen cellulite on a man (least not my size) and have thus seen it as a "female" part of my appearance which is.. melting away.
Guess I'm lucky in this respect. I never had cellulite even at my largest. From what I've seen though, women tend to have cellulite mostly in the butt and hips areas, so fat redistribution should take care of it. Men don't store much fat those places, which is probably why they don't get cellulite as much.
Mine has been decreasing- but not totally gone.

Yeah thanks for the responses everyone, I guess it is something I can look forward to on T. I'm not overweight at all, I'm pretty average and fairly healthy (I do a lot of exercise but I also eat a lot of chocolate so *shrug*) I think the cellulite came from being on the contraceptive pill for a while and never shifted.
It is second only to the moobs on the 'things I hate about my body list'.
