Paul Scott, a Republican state representative from Grand Blanc with ambitions of winning Michigan's Secretary of State seat, recently became the center of controversy when he announced on his blog that he would "make it a priority to ensure transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver's license in any circumstance."

Jena Lewis went through a sex change more than five years ago and carries a driver's license that identifies her as a female.Gary Glenn, leader of a Midland-based anti-gay group, the American Family Association, said his group considers the issue vital to the secretary of state race.

How nice to be so quaintly out of it.  Somehow I think that a real unemployment rate of close to 50% might be of more importance.  But what would I know?
