I saw a bunch of people on my friend's list joining a group called "That awkward moment when you can't tell if someone is a boy or a girl" and it really irked me. I went and looked at the group and they're putting up pictures of androgynous or transgendered people and basically guessing at their gender and making fun of them. So I made a group on facebook called "Why do you care if I'm a boy or a girl?" Just put that part in quotes in the search and it'll come up. Maybe you guys that have facebook could join and spread the word. I'd really appreciate it. :) Thanks!!

Joining now.
By the way, you are one extremely attractive and dashing person. (If that's you in your avatar. ;) )
Hehe thank you!! That is indeed me, and I'm on Facebook too if you want to add me. I'm the group creator obviously. :)
--Konnor
I wanted to add it but I couldn't find it.. :-\

Can we post links on this site? I can never remember.
joined, and invited a few friends
Joined. Definitely joined. That other group was getting on my nerves too seeing as about half my friends have joined that one. >:( Glad you made this one!
Definitely joined! :3 Invited people as well.
Great idea, joining!
Thanks everyone!! Glad you all like it. :)
I was really mad when I saw the other group, and more than a bit disappointed when I saw some friends sign up to it. ::)
AGH can't find it! >:( Facebook is irritating atm

You just have to put in the 'why do you care if I'm a boy or a girl' part into the search bar. Or, sort of cheating here: the group ID for it is 321446002663. Just open up any other group page you're in and swap out the group ID in the URL. :P (Not sure if I'm allowed to post part of a url, but it's not a link, so it's okay technically, right? ...If not, I'll take it out.)
This is the result of ignorance and societies unwillingness to EDUCATE the public.
*sigh*
I'll join yours when facebook loads for me lol.
i joined. hopefully it will become an active group. i've often been on the receiving end of the 'hey, you a boy or a girl?" comment throughout my life. lately my answer has been "and why does it matter?" that seems to leave them walking away scratching their heads.
I joined. Hopefully some of my FB friends will get the message when they see my update.
I joined
Fortunately, Zac B. invited me to the group. I was having no luck with searching.
Gee Am I the only girl that joined it? ;)
wow, i've never seen the first group you mentioned, yay for my friends and family :D
i wonder if anyone would catch on if i joined...

well the thread was posted in ftm.. for some reason.
oh by the way, hope no one's objected to having people who are just supporters join :) one of my friends did :P
I joined!!
LOL not anymore Janet!
This is the only forum I read much, so that's why I posted it here. And I wasn't sure if there was a rule against posting the same thing in multiple boards. Of course the ladies and supporters and everyone are allowed to join! Thanks so much everyone for joining, feel free to add your thoughts or anything you think will be interesting. I'm a bit lost on how to keep the group active after the initial mega-joining stage. ??? lol

We need a myspace group like this, cause I don't use facebook. Hm....
ok i know i'm technically retarded but please someone how do you join? Search keeps saying no results
Radar thank u for that now joined
I don't use Facebook so I can't see your group but if you do a Google search of "That awkward moment when you can't tell if someone is a boy or a girl" this post comes up first. :)
hey cool idea, I'll probably get some awkward questions from friends and family, but I joined :)
I also saw that page going around, and it annoyed me a little, but we all have to realize that for the most part, when people are trying to decide whether you are male or female, they are just trying to be polite, because for all they know, if they guess wrong, you may possibly get very offended. In general, people are just honestly trying to do what you would want, and since you cannot always tell every random person on the street what you want, they're going to assume you want the pronouns of your birth gender.

I agree with you on that - people who are genuinely curious or unsure don't bother me a bit. I encourage people to ask, actually, and if i hear people asking themselves in my presence (as if unsure to come to me to actually ask) then i answer them anyway.
It's when people make groups about it and begin to post pictures and poke fun at them (which is what they're pretty much doing on that group for the most part, or so is the general feeling) that it gets annoying and rude.
It's one thing for people to ask one another "is that a guy/girl" on the street or in the class room and another to post a photo and say "guess what this is!"
I joined your group but had no luck finding the other group to see what was going on.
I agree 100% with you both, Folk and Sameth. It's definitely one thing to be trying to figure it out to be polite and use the right pronouns, but it crosses a line when the other group is just posting pictures and making fun of people. Hope I didn't offend anyone with this.

Lol. I joined your group yesterday, and I was rereading the postings here today, I went to facebook in order to find that other group you mentioned.
I didn't have to go very far. One of my friends had just joined it this morning..These people are rude and offensive. Although, they have the right to their opinion. They aren't exactly educated on the whole thing. I'm shocked though that two of my friends are a part of that group.
I just read the group info for that other group...Made me laugh. They actually used my birth name as the example of a gender neutral name that can throw people off sometimes when guessing if someone is a boy or a girl. Awesome.

I didn't join it yet... I'm so not brave.
But I do fully support it and the reason why it was created.
Joined. And added a bunch of you as friends. Please feel free to decline, I know that some people don't like crossing the line between online life and real life, so I'll completely understand. If anyone I didn't recognize on there wants to add me, feel free: James Whitman.
Thanks for your support Kaori! And I added ya James. :)

seems really cool. joined! 8)
if anyone comes across me in that group, you can add me. im on there as Joshua R. my full name is on facebook, but i dont want to post it on here.
I'm really new to this site, and I've been looking around for a few days now (I'm occasionally on chat) and figured I would finally reply to something on the forums lol. So...HELLO WORLD!
Anyway, I saw that group, and deleted all of my friends who had joined it. Then I saw this post and joined your group ;D.
Thanks for joining Poseidon and welcome to the site!!
Yeah, I saw that group too.
It made me really mad, and anxious.
Are people really that ignorant?
Do people really but up that wall?
It makes me very saddened to think people are the close-minded. :/
Great group that you've set up! I've just joined it. Love the display pic as well :)
Cheers,
Joshua
Thanks guys!! Feel free to talk about stuff in the group, seems we have a shortage of things to say lately. It was pretty active when I first started it, and I don't want it to turn into one of those groups where nothing happens. But I don't know what to say lol.
