Title: Post op hair loss
Post by: cbenoit on April 21, 2006, 11:21:50 PM
Ladies, my name is Catherine and I've had SRS 2 years ago. Life is great BUT, 4 months after SRS I began experiencing hair loss and hair thinning. 2 years later my once thick hair is severely thin and going. I don't understand it. Prior to SRS I never had this problem. I've tried Estrace for a year and it did nothing. Now I'm taking estinyl daily and the problem is worst with the more potent estinyl.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm so confused and discouraged. Do you of anyone that has experienced post SRS hair loss/hair thinning?

My best friend noticed recently that my hair is thinner than it used to be. My thick blond hair has always been my most convincing feature. It still looks fine... but I started worrying about it last year.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it if anything.  I might try Rogain for women or something.  I am not currently taking hormones but I may have a chat with my doctor to get back on them.  When I quit taking them is when I noticed it getting thin.

I celebrated my GRS date for a couple of years and then lost track of exactly which date it was.  But this coming year will be a special one.  March 1, 2007 will be my 20th year.  For two thirds of my adult life I've lived as a female.  It has been a great life.  I hope that the best is yet to come.

Now... back to shopping for that perfect holiday gift for me.... I'm looking at Fender Strats.  ;)  Like I really need one.

Me too.

Pre-op, I was on a high dose of Premarin for many years (not without other side-effects)...

Post-op, now on estradiol valerate and hair loss is just one problem I've been facing. Endo says everything's fine by the numbers but when you know in your heart of hearts that it isn't, it's difficult to make headway against such individuals.

Should post-op women be treated identically to menopausal women? Because to me, this seems to be the paradigm that many of us are treated under, as well as being often treated under a one-size-fits-all model depending on the clinic, despite the wide variation of regimes used by reputable centres and practitioners worldwide.

Regardless of all that, as a starting point, you should go back to your doctor/GP/primary healthcare professional.
