Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) is maintaining that passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act is still on track in the U.S. House, although he said he's "less sure" about the bill's prospects in the Senate.
In a DC Agenda interview, Frank on Tuesday said lawmakers working on the bill were about to come to agreement on the legislation before inclement weather last week shut down the federal government.
"We were very close just before we snowed out to basically come to an agreement on a bill that would get a majority vote in the Education & Labor Committee," he said.
QuoteStill, Frank said the transgender protections were among the sticking points in negotiations on how to proceed.
"There has always been a problem with the question of people who are transgender in situations where people are totally or partially unclothed," he said.
While expecting movement in the House, Frank was less certain about ENDA's prospects in the Senate.
"I'm less sure about that," he said. "I think people have often underestimated some of the difficulties."
In other words, there is still plenty of time to throw the trans people under the bus (again!) and make it look like we did our very best.
Besides, the trans folks don't do anything for the community anyway... well that whole stonewall thing, but hardly anything since that...
right.
I chose to remain cynical because being optimistic is so very hard on me. I am still crushed from Mr. Obama's inaction and lack of clear direction for LGBT issues. It sounds like he still thinks that rhetoric is enough to get the gAy-TM to spit out cash...
When the ink is dried on either the repeal of DADT or ENDA I will re-examine my professional skepticism.

Massachusetts representative Barney Frank said the Employment Non-Discrimination Act is on track in the House of Representatives in an interview with DC Agenda Thursday.

Frank said some provisions protecting transgender people were hot topics.
"There has always been a problem with the question of people who are transgender in situations where people are totally or partially unclothed," Frank said.
Maybe Barney should join Focus on the Family Penis ... it seems like they are just as interested.
"Let's not protect employment or housing for trans people because they might want to use the bathroom appropriate to their gender presentation."
An you KNOW what goes on in bathrooms, right?
er....pooping?
Eff you Barney, and the rest of your ilk who cant see the forest for the trees.
ps. How about requiring a therapist's carry letter for employers or other public places if you are so concerned about where people poop?

For some reason the name Larry Craig comes to mind.

Would that be Larry "I sit with a wide stance" Craig?

It still blows my mind that something intended to discourage discrimination has such a hard time being accepted. I thought this country was all about supporting equality?
Sorry, I forgot, that's just some Constitutional gibberish.
