Hi All,
I was wondering is there anywhere you can buy clothes from apart from the internet.
I want to buy some clothes but i cant have them delivered to my door incase my SO wanders what they are (thats if i'm living with her any longer, but thats a long story). I live in Liverpool and dont know of any shops i can go to but i would travel if there was any other place outside of liverpool.
If there isnt any maybe it could be a carear move for me LOL
Any ideas....
Vrony :)
What do you mean by TG clothes? Wouldn't the women's department at a local store do just fine?
Yeh but they dont do my shoe size (10) sorry forgot to mention what i was really looking for.. any ideas
vrony
For shoes over a certain size, internet is really the only place to find them. Take a risk if it's worth it to you.
I was thinking that myself, you never know though. Its a shame, i dont think i could come up with an excuse, although i think there would be only one excuse you could give, that would bring everything out in the open LOL. Maybe i could open up a shoe shop, not a bad idea
vrony
You could try opening a Post Office Box to receive the package. But it'll still come back to where you can hide it and when (not if) it'll end up coming out in the open.
I think there is a store in London that sells them. I think it is called "Transformations", but the girls in England would know.
If you get the shoes via courier then you can just go pick them up from a local distribution centre, or get them delivered to your work.
Good point, I think i'll wait till i get my own place and then i can do what i want, cant wait... It coming out in the open though is not an option especially with what we are going through at the moment. I'm even begining to understand Phil Collins tunes

Hi vrony
Shoes, size 10 isn't that big for females length doesn't matter depends on the width (true in so many ways ). Try the shops where you can try on shoes you pick from the shelf, I'm so out of touch with the UK so it's a bit difficult, but places like Sainsuburys if they sell shoes. I'm, meaning big retail shops. Until you get confident they are easy sit down try a few pair on. If someone stares, smile and stare back.
DON'T get nervous.
Skirts. measure your waist. No clothes and don't suck it in. If overweight then you know what I will say next. But take the measurement. Divide by two. measure that length from your fingertip to your elbow joint mark it, on your coat etc. When you pick up a skirt hold it against your finger tip and see where it ends up on your arm. You can do this very naturally with practice, and practice at home. Bras and tops. lots of sizing charts on Susan's and the Wiki site.
Make up, again hints on the site.
Look on the Internet for TG support sites in Liverpool, they are there. There is quite a community support group in Manchester. Not everyone likes these groups, I have found them useful to get on your feet. They certainly tend to have good contacts for places to shop and get made over etc.
A quick google found www.spirit-level.org.uk (http://www.spirit-level.org.uk) in Liverpool. I know nothing about them.
Good Luck
Honey. We all know what you are going through
Cindy
Hi Cindy,
Very good website there, i didnt know there was support groups in liverpool, i thought they would be in manchester. I think i might be visiting them in the not too distant future.
Thanks for the advice on Shoes and sizes, its great to have sisters to help, i suppose its like a teenage girls swapping advice when they are growing up exploring new things.
Shoe sizes though, do you mean that if i'm a size 10 then i would fit into a womans size, i thought their sizes only went up to size 8 and i couldnt imagine fitting into them..
Anyway speak to you soon, take care
vrony :) :)
Shoe sizes are tricky... UK size 10 is bigger than US Size 10, and US Size 10 is about as high as most stores will sell, even on the internet. *Generally* a women's shoes is 2 sizes bigger than the equivalent mens shoes, so if you wear US size 10 mens, you're probably a US size 12 womens. But there's exceptions to everything... I was wearing size 10 mens, but I fit fine into most size 10 womens... The only way to know for sure 100% is to try them on, which is why it's good to buy from a place with a good return policy. Endless.com has free shipping and free returns for 1 year after purchase, so you can kind of cheat and just order the same shoes from them in multiple sizes and see which one fits, then return the ones that don't.
Another exception is that the higher the heel is, the less likely you'll fit into the shoes, even if it's the same size. So you might fit into a 2" heel, but might not fit into a 4" heel in the same style and brand. And another unfortunate thing is that they don't really make half sizes above 10.5, which can make fitting harder if you would be something like an 11.5 or a 12.5.

Go to Evans they have size 10 and are wider fitting. They carry a bigger range on line so have a look at www.evans.co.uk (http://www.evans.co.uk).
Thanks for the website info, ive just had a nose around and have already seen a couple of pair that i would like, i just need wages to blow and thats not due for a couple of weeks so i'll have to make a note of this website for when i do.
Another great piece of info where would i be without everyone
vrony :) :)
also tallgirls.co.uk and longtallsally.com.
if you are buying shoes from the states then add 2 sizes to your UK size. But US shoes tend to be narrower than the UK ones.
Evans shoes are very wide and fit me well. Your best option is to go to the shop and try them on
I love the way everyone says go and try them on, i wish i was that brave but i suppose that comes with the more you do it. I just need to break through that barrier and think sod what people think. Thanks again for the websites its hard trying to find what you want but this is why this site is so important in my life right now. How i wish i would of joined years ago...
vrony :) :)
I dont buy the whole 'convincing/non-convincing' thing. I have unknowingly feminised the look of my male self for years and now i find that i do it automatically with earrings, bracelets scarves, womens jeans etc. i find it a lot less stressful to do this, and you can sort of 'try out' how you feel about 'wearing' your TG self on a day-to-day basis.
the good thing is that you can field curious comments from friends and loved ones more easily, and they can get used to seeing you gradually changing.
I guess what you need in the end is a trusted TG friend to take you to a big shopping centre outside your home town and do the rounds of the charity shops, and begin with one or two pieces. Dont forget - you're doing nothing wrong, and most shops are only too glad to have your cash.
Oh - and i'm a fan of the online fashion blog. Try whatkatiewore.com - very young and colourful.

I know we all say try them on. But shopping is a thing most woman love and the people in the shops are always helpful and never give you problems.
IT does take a bit of bravery so one day maybe
Hi Vrony,
You could try Alternative Footwear, just google for them. You will need to add a size or two to your normal male shoe size as others have said. Alternative Footwear have a sale on at the moment and some styles go up to size 14!
If you can't face going into shops and trying stuff on that's very understandable, I couldn't either.
As well, if you feel that having stuff delivered to your home is too risky, the Post Office has a Poste Restante service. You just set the delivery address of the order as your name, then Poste Restante, and then the address of your local post office. The goods will be delivered to the Post Office of your choice and you go down there and pick them up. Just search royalmail.com for poste restante if you want full details.
Another online store selling lovely stuff including shoes is StockingsHQ.com
Good luck,
A.S
Hi A.S,
Thanks for the great advice, there are some good bargains at Alt footwear, I'll have to look into the delivery at the post office.
Once again, thanks

Hi Vrony
I missed this thread until now... I've been kind of busy with my writing but as Janet Lynn said there is Transformations which has branches in several cities inlcuding London, Manchester and Birmingham. It's run by an old friend of mine - It's very useful in the early days if you want things like prosthetic breastforms and the like but unless you want to spend a lot of money I wouldn't really recommend it for clothing.
For clothing and shoes in large sizes for ANY trans woman these guys are the business: http://www.classicconfidence.co.uk/shop/ (http://www.classicconfidence.co.uk/shop/) Ok you may have problems with receiving mail order items - but as others have said there must be ways around that. All it takes is a bit of ingenuity I feel, for exmaple if you could find a trans friend who had no problems in that area you could arrange for her to take in parcels for you, or like others suggested maybe a box number of some sort... etc.
UK high street shops which do a good range in larger sizes are Evans, Next, M&S & Bonne-Marche.
Hope that helps you a little.
