Title: Sometimes It's Better To Be Your Own Attorney
Post by: Julie Marie on February 28, 2010, 06:43:58 PM
After a year of waiting the Illinois Dept. of Human Rights (IDHR) found insufficient evidence in my discrimination claim against my former employer.  My attorney, who initially said she's take this as far as I wanted regardless what IDHR said, told me she saw no further reason to pursue this and agreed with the IDHR ruling.

So I decided to take things into my own hands.  I filed a Request for Review.

The Human Rights Commission sent their findings out and recommended that the IDHR vacate their original dismissal and reopen the case.  They cited numerous issues the IDHR had ignored and stated the IDHR should investigate each of the issues before making their final determination.

My attorney (ex) said I had no case to pursue any further.  Guess she was wrong.

This doesn't mean they will rule in my favor this time but from what I read it seems hard to believe they can come up with another dismissal without looking overly prejudiced in favor of my ex employer.

Now it's back to waiting.

Talked to the investigator today.  Same one as before.  Maybe she'll see I'm not going down without a fight.

When you're right, you gotta fight!

I signed a 180 day extension to allow for the review.  Now we wait.  :icon_sleep:
