Title: The Clothes Effect
Post by: K8 on March 04, 2010, 02:03:32 PM
This morning I was rushing around getting ready to pick up a friend for coffee.  I was feeling vulnerable and down from the events of yesterday and I was in a hurry, so I was just going to pull on jeans and a sweater.  But my friend is an older man who always appreciates when I dress up for him, so I always do.  I threw together an outfit quickly, hoping it would all go together.

Then I looked in the mirror.  It turned out to be a really cute outfit.  Immediately I felt all perky and happy – very Kate-like. ;)

Isn't it odd that clothes can have this effect?

I have noticed, if I am in just jeans and a tee shirt, I don't feel as feminine.  But change the top to a more feminine top and it is an instant transformation.  I don't have many of those types of tees, but if I am doing some work that is mess I wear them.

Kate,
It's hard to imagine you feeling down! I glad to hear things are better for you today. A cute outfit always makes me feel better. And if I can't find one in my closet, shopping for one works, too!! :D

Sometimes (always) I make my family late in the morning hunting for just that outfit.

Interestingly for me it is easier to find that outfit when I am already in a good mood.

I'm all for feeling perky! high five. I'm all for high fives today too.

I usually end up just going out with jeans and a t-shirt or a tank top... usually don't put make up on. LOL My avatar is me yesterday, no make up, typical day, getting home from running errands and reading posts. LOL I took the pic with my web camera.

I used to dress up more, and I used to always wear make up. But, I do feel more girly if I dress up and put on make up. LOL

I think the best part of that is looking in the mirror and seeing the real you smiling back. Makes me want to dress her up and take her out lol

Everyday I'll get up around 5 in the morning to get ready for high school and at first I'll do moisturizer and use tweezers for any unsightly facial or eyebrow hairs and then begin with makeup: Foundation, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, blush, lipstick and still I'll feel very unattractive and non-girly but as soon as I put on a top or tee along with a skirt or jeans and add my own twist of accessories with it.

It's like I'm a new person and while gazing at myself through the mirror and having the light beam and pour in from the window, I can see myself gleaming from ear to ear and then I always see a spirit of my dead grandma floating besides me with her hand grasped on my shoulder...Piercingly staring into my eyes and saying, "You're beautiful today hun!"

...My day is made.

Getting dressed has the same effect for me. Im alone so I can slouch around in comfy clothes but when feeling down I doll myself up and feel so much better. Just wish I had the courage to go out dressed.

I take pride in my unusual tights. Today I'm wearing black and white checkerboard - yesterday it was black and neon green stripes, and the day before that, pink leopard print. It makes me feel all tickled inside. :3

Yesterday I saw an older woman in an outfit that she had obviously put some care into creating - flamboyant but not over the top.  I shot her a look of appreciation and understanding and she shot me a look of having received the message.

I love being a woman among women. :D
