so i have been doing as much research as i can to see if i can find a surgeon who will do will my chest surgery without a letter from a therapist. I have emailed about 10 or 11 surgeons that i found searching online to ask what their requirements were for ftm chest surgery. 2 surgeons emailed me back saying that do not require a letter from a therapist and they are sherman leis in philadelphia pa and gary lawton in san antonio tx. Has anyone heard anything about them? im just curious if anyone has had any experience with them or anything. i live in ohio so the one in pa would be ideal but im still wanting to do alot more research. im hoping to get a consultation with dr. leis in the next couple weeks so i can talk to him. but yeah if anything has heard or dealt with either of these surgeons any info would be greatly appreciated
dr leis's office is really close to me. I live about an hour outside of philadelphia. When I went to a top surgery show and tell at the Philly Trans Health Conference last year there were a bunch of people who had gone to leis and I remember writing his name down because they looked pretty damn good. And if I recall he was one of the cheaper surgeons I had looked at. His results might not be as good as Browstein or Garramone but all of the ones I saw last year were pretty good and the guys seemed pleased with him in general.
Dr. Leis is a fellow who does "everything" in one place

not exactly the highest rep around, but isn't too bad.
looking at Dr. Lawton's website, http://plasticsurgery-sanantonio.com/ (http://plasticsurgery-sanantonio.com/) I have even less confidence in his ability.
(ps: there is another place in texas that does top surgery http://www.ai4ps.com/ (http://www.ai4ps.com/) )
edit: thanks for the extra surgeon name btw

His DI results (under mastectomy) look decent. Some of the people have dog ears, but I dunno if another surgeon would have been able to avoid that or not.
Whoever designed that website, though... eugh, the graphics on the main page are a pixelated mess.
Have you looked at Medalie in Cleveland? He's the proud creator of my chest.

Doesn't Medalie require a letter, though? He did for me...
Ugh. I was curious about Lawton's results, so I went to his gallery. And was assaulted by loads of pictures of women with perfectly nice and sometimes quite large upper equipment, who went to him and turned themselves into top-heavy caricatures.
I have to say that it would be really nice if he put the trans guys in a separate section.

yeah, and not call it a "mastectomy" (because not *all* the breast tissue is removed, which reminds me to get cracking on the wiki about that)

I agree--that'd be a good thing for people reading the Wiki to be aware of. Having top surgery doesn't eliminate your risk of getting breast cancer, because you still have some breast tissue.
