Danny La Rue, the female impersonator, built a career on fabulous frocks. Yesterday 90 of them (minus those already snapped up by the Victoria and Albert Museum) went up for auction at the Brick Lane Music Hall in the East End of London.
Bidders from as far afield as Japan, New Zealand and the United States competed for costumes, such as the Dame Margo Bunting and Rudolph Nearenuf tutu and tunic, or a Joan Collins gold satin sheath and boa that might ordinarily look out of place on a strapping 6ft Irishman.
