There are only two.Even the intersexed will have a brain chemistry that will identify with male or female.I know i am a male.but i like being a woman sometimes.because it is a part of me..A transwoman is a woman born with a male body and the reverse for a transman.->-bleeped-<-s are just woman who did not have the final surgery.
Gender, as I see it, is a sliding scale, and I will not proclaim there being any number or restriction there of, as I would feel like a bit of a prick imposing that sort of restriction on others... you know.. given that there are those that would impose restrictions upon my gender. (Insist I'm a woman, not a man.)

WARNING. I locked a thread earlier that dealt with this. Please review rule 10:
10. Bashing or flaming of any individuals or groups is not acceptable behavior on this web site and will not be tolerated in the slightest for any reason. This includes but is not limited to:
- Advocating the separation or exclusion of one or more group from under the Transgender umbrella term
- Suggesting or claiming that one segment or sub-segment of our community is more legitimate, deserving, or more real than any others
Since there are some on this site who will strongly disagree with putting everyone into two boxes, and there are those who feel strongly we fit into two boxes, I see this as an argument that is "Advocating the separation or exclusion of one or more group from under the Transgender umbrella term" and "Suggesting or claiming that one segment or sub-segment of our community is more legitimate, deserving, or more real than any others".
Can we
please try to help one another and not be devisive?

Have a nice day. :-\

Barbara, there are plenty of people who do not identify as either male or female. I even know a couple of post-transition transsexuals who don't see themselves as strictly one thing or the other. Please don't try to force other people into categories that they don't claim for themselves.
ETA: Okay, I see that Kate is pulling out the big elephant gun. I don't care which tactic works, as long as it works.
i dont know...i dont really identify with males or females that much.
Personaly having lived with an androgyne for some time now I must disagree with the original posters statements.
From what I can see there are about 6 easily identified genders and any unknown number of variations on the theme.
In the perfect binary there are only 2 genders. But the perfect binary is only perfect on paper.
We only need to look at our Androgyne and Nuetrois trans siblings and see the falacy of the binary.
also i dont really identify as androgyne or neutrois either.
As for how many genders there are, I'd put the number at the exact current global population count.
Don'tcha know it, new genders are being born every minute! ;)
