Title: I sent my mom the e-mail
Post by: DavisJ86 on March 29, 2010, 07:10:08 PM
Here's what I sent

"Mother,

So I thought I would e-mail you seeing where this is a big thing. There's something about me that I don't think you've ever known about me. You know how all the time I get mistaken for your son? Well they weren't wrong. For a long time now, I've felt like I was meant to be a boy. I was to afraid to do anything about it because I was scared and I didn't even know what being transgendered was. But I'm older now and this feeling has yet to go away. I always feel like I fit in better with boys, but couldn't because I looked like a girl. For a long time now I've been depressed with my body. I didn't show it because I found ways to deal with it by wearing boys clothes and cutting my hair, and looking rather androgynous. But, I'm through dealing with it. Like I want to be happy and be happy in a body that makes me feel good about myself. So I've started taking the necessary steps to transition from female-to-male. Starting with therapy and then I'll be taking hormones that'll give me more masculine features. I hope you understand that this really means alot to me and I don't want to lose my family because of somethign that'll make me happy. I don't want to lose my little brother. That's my biggest fear. That you'll prevent me from seeing him. But that's your choice and I'll come to terms with that. I'm still going to do something that'll make me happy and give me a better quality of life instead of being depressed over being something that I'm not. I hope you understand, if not it's okay and I'll cope with it. May lead to more therapy but I'll cope. Any questions feel free to ask me. Thanks for reading. Love you.

-Me

P.S.- I  have picked out a male name but I wanted to deliver the inital blow first"

Now here is her response:

Dear Son

I hope that these steps will put you in a place that will make you happy.  I will always love  you no matter what your sex is or isn't.  I carried you next to my heart my nine months and I have carried you in my heart for more than 23 years no matter what you do I will be here for you.  I will not judge you or hold your choices against you.  So do what you feel is necessary and I will pray to the Good Lord that this will make your life easier.  I am hoping that you will let me pick your guy name, because I am partial to the name Daniel that way the little girl I gave birth to will always be a part of our family.

Love you
Mommy

P.S.  If you need me to talk to your father let me know.  He is an ass but still your father.

Now that I've had time to chill out, I'm pretty stoked and I feel like everything is right with the world. Like I'm glad she's accepting and willing to tell my father, whom I wasn't planning on telling because of the face that we don't really talk and isn't a big part of my life. But it's amazing. So my path is cleared even though I was already in the process of getting things together. Super stoked.

-Davis

Daniel Davis sounds kinda cool......
It makes transition so much easier on us when we have at least 1 family member that accepts us as we say we are.
I love reading good news.

I love the way she started it as dear 'Son'.  That is awesome, and to want to name you also is really cool.

That's great news! Glad it went well.

Before I was born, my mom had picked two names, for a boy or girl. When I told her I was going to take the girl name she choose so long ago she was really happy  :)

thank you everyone, I am really grateful that she took really well. Like that's my mom. Like I know we haven't had a strong relationship, but I do respect her, and I feel like this will bring us closer.

I'm all for her picking out my name and all but I've already decided on a name. Plus I don't really feel like Daniel connects with me.

Eh either way it goes she frickin is awesome with it and that's all that matters.  ;D

Wiieuw, even I felt touched by this one and I'm usually not easily affected.
You sent your mum a great mail Davis, and then her reply - dang, must've been a dream come true. Congrats man, great to see another person get family support like this. :)

Congratulations. I have never liked coming-out letters, but yours was really beautifully written: not maudlin or overly dramatic, just heart-felt and honest and caring. And reading your mother's response, it's clear where you got that from. And I love her post-script. My mother didn't ask -- she just told him.  >:-)

Anyway, that's awesome. :)
