"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal," Thomas Jefferson wrote with such simple eloquence in the Declaration of Independence.

Those immortal words inspired 13 British colonies to declare their independence from the motherland and form a more perfect union.

Today, Jefferson must be weeping in the afterlife.

For today in Mississippi, all men are not created equal – especially if they are a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender person or a special-needs student.
