Title: question about hrt levels.
Post by: flygirl82 on April 12, 2010, 06:03:28 PM
hi everyone so i got my results from my bloodwork in regards to my hormone levels.  the doctor told me my estrogen was 1000 and my testosterone was at 20.  she had said these numbers were ok...  my question is i've been reading some people here having .5 testosterone levels and so forth which concerns me a little as im not currently seeing many changes (atleast in breast tissue development. . .  I currently take estrogen shots once every 10 days.  and spiro twice a day.  Have been on hormones for about 9 months however in the begining of my hrt i was taking a low dose of spiro and one shot a month for about 4 months.  im just wondering if i need to address my testosterone levels and maybe change my spiro dosage??  thanks for any imput :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reference_ranges_for_blood_tests#Sex_hormones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reference_ranges_for_blood_tests#Sex_hormones)

This link might be helpful, especially in that it provides citations for its ranges as well.

It says for testostrone, females should have at least 20 ng/dL and as high as 80-85.

So the only problem is if it's being measured in nmol/L instead of ng/dL in which case 20 is well above the upper limit of 3 nmol/L.

In short, if it's 20 ng/dL then that's fine, if it's 20 nmol/L then it's way too high.

As for estrogen (estradiol presumably, estrogen is a class of different sex steroids of which estradiol is the primary one for premenopausal females) 1000 pmol/L should be fine.

I doubt you would need to change your dosage at those levels. It's likely more to do with the time prior to being on the dosage your on, and simply having to wait.
