Over the past two days, FOX New Channel has contributed to increasing public misconceptions about the efforts of the Maine Human Rights Commission to make the state's public schools safe and comfortable for all students. Fox aired two irresponsible segments on the commission's proposal to issue guidelines on "Sexual Orientation in Schools and Colleges" to all Maine public schools.
The proposed guidelines direct administrators to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms and to participate on gender-segregated sports teams in accordance with their gender identity. These guidelines were developed in response to a case, currently before a Superior Court in Maine, of a transgender girl who was denied access to the girls' restrooms at school.
Faux News is pro-discrimination. Think back in the day when it was uncomfortable for whites to be near blacks? She is using that very same argument. I swear it is bizarre how closed minded some people can be. They just can't ever 'get it'.
The video stirs up emotions, on both sides. Megan Kelly (FOX) seemed very troubled about "boys" (t-girls) in girls bathrooms, "girls" (t-boys) playing on a boys football team and "boys" participating on a girl's gymnastic team. Apparently she was hitting the hot buttons - boys in girls bathrooms, girls being pummeled in boy's sports and a boy's physical advantage in sports when competing against girls. There was no mention of girls in boy's bathrooms.
What Kelly failed to acknowledge was that TG kids, who have been diagnosed as TG, would most likely be participating in some sort of medical intervention (when puberty starts to set in) to prevent birth gender maturation and/or aid identified gender maturation. This would, of course, diffuse a lot of critic's objections.
Kelly also failed to acknowledge that the girls in the girl's bathroom wouldn't be seeing a boy dressed like a boy walking into "their" bathroom. She phrased it so the image is a boy walking into a girl's bathroom. It was very misleading to the uneducated.
