Title: Doctors appointment
Post by: Pippa on April 17, 2010, 04:16:21 PM
Last week I wrote to my GP about a referral to a gender therapist as I am pushing on to the next stage of transition and need to formalise my gender status.   They have asked that I book an appointment to go and discuss things with them.   I intend to book an appointment this week but I am wondering what I should wear.  I feel I should go in dress down girl mode but they have written to me in boy mode.   Do I go as the real me or in boy mode, what do you all think?

Just dress however you feel comfortable at that time.

I had intended to dress in a more femme manner of attire when I first met my therapist & "hormone doc" but just couldn't feel right in anything I tried.

So I attired myself comfortably, and I'm really glad I did.

I was asked about feminine clothing, and I said I wear such things insofar as I like the way they look & feel on me, which I hope to increase over time.

The first two times I saw my therapist it was in boy mode.  But afterwards it was always as me.

if your GP is a woman she will instantly tag you as female if you use a little makeup, jewellery, perfume etc and if you can't face going in a skirt go in fem cut jeans and afem top..that gets the message over.
hard to believe but last time I was at gender clinic there was a 'MtF' who looked exactly like a fat bloke with not a thing to suggest he was just a few months away from surgery...can't says sex change surgery cos he was staying male but getting a vagina to be a mangina.

Just back from the Doctor's and everything went brilliantly.   She has dealt with male to female transgender patients before and is happy to help.   She is going to contact the local psychiatrist as a first step towards formally progressing my transition.   I now cannot get the big stupid grin off my face ;D

Formal legal transition has started after thirty years of pain.  At last I am on my way.

I went in dressed down girl mode and I think that I gave her a bit of a shock when she came to collect me from the waiting room.   She apologised profusely for using my male name and I am now referred to by staff at the surgery as Pippa Musgrave  ;D

I'm glad you got the name part cleared up at the doctors. It is amazing how many people listen to that just to see if you match the gender of the name subconsciously. Good to see you on your way.

Yay! Congratulations Pippa !  :eusa_clap: :eusa_dance:  :icon_drunk: :icon_flower:

It must be a great relief that your doctor is experienced in these matters, as it can really help speed up our rather slow system in the UK...

When I booked my appointment with my HRT doctor (who handles many TS patients), I asked how I should dress. She instantly said you are a woman inside and we are going to help you become one outside so you better dress like a woman. The doctor greated me with a smile " hi Pam very nice to meet you, you look very nice. I am looking forward to working with you". I immediately relaxed and and knew I was in the right place.
