Title: FFS Advice please :) (pics)
Post by: vickirose on April 19, 2010, 11:43:47 PM
Hi!!
I'm seriously thinking about FFS.  I have about $4000 saved so far and my goal is to get it done next year.  My preferred surgeon is Dr Suporn.   I want to send him my photos for an opinion but i want to know what you guys think first.   I've posted this question before and i got some very nice comments (including "are you an M2F or F2M?" lol) anyway I've been on hormones for over a year now and I think I'm starting to see some changes especially with my skin texture and some facial fat in my cheeks and i'm a B cup!! yay.  but as you can see my facial bone structure is still very masculine.

what i think i need
-feminizing rhinoplasty
-i have very wide prominent cheekbones that jut out from my face . i would like a reduction malarplasty but i'm told that Dr suporn doesn't offer this surgery anymore (does anyone know why?)
-my jaw and chin are very square so i definitely need a mandible reduction and genioplasty
-the distance between my nose and lips is a bit long so possibly a lip lift.

my feminine features
-my eyes and brows
-my lips

I dont think my brows are too bad but my forehead does have a vertical slant to it which makes me look a bit masculine on my profile.

Here are some pics (sorry about the eyes. i'm just being paranoid i guess. i haven't come out to my parents yet)

I'm no expert in this, but those pictures pass 100% to me... and to me, you don't just look very female, you look like a lovely female.

Honestly I hope you don't change a thing. You have beautiful features that don't appear masculine at all to me. I did a portrait for a woman who had very similar features, particularly the cheeks and jaw. Strong features doesn't necessarily mean masculine.

Just my humble opinion.

You're not masculine at all from what I see. Don't sweat it.

my 2 cents:
chin ok, maybe grinding it a bit, nothing big
rear of jaw is too square, that's the biggie
eyebrows could be shaped better
hair line is a bit high

if you want to waste money forehead contouring is another one

aww thank you guys :)
its just that people do stare sometimes when i'm dressed as a woman. for some reason i look more feminine when i'm normal than when i wear makeup and a wig which makes me look like i'm in drag. it doesnt make sense lol. i know none of my features are particularly masculine but taken together i feel like theres something there that needs work.

Honestly? I think you just might need more neutral colors for your make-up, then. :) But I really think you look amazing in those pictures.

yes i was thinking about forehead contouring but then again i can always get bangs (even though i hate bangs lol) i dont want too many external incisions. jaw reduction and cheek reduction are done through intraoral incisions so there aren't any visible scars.  i tend to form keloid scars . it sucks.

yeah i do go overboard on makeup sometimes (e.g.  bright pastel pink lipstick lol) but i dont think natural makeup even suits me.... im not very good at applying it.

Vicki, it could be your confidence. If you go out expecting people to be looking at you and wondering about you, they will. People pick up on discomfort and it attracts attention.

Don't go out "dressed as a woman" just be yourself. Maybe do things in steps to slowly feminize your image. Find what look works best for you. Go out into the world comfortable and confident. Then after you've been full time for awhile if you're still getting read as male you may have  better idea on what needs to be changed. You don't want to make big (expensive) changes when you're feeling insecure and unsure on things.

Wear less makeup in more subtle colours, then. And skip the wig and just develop a cute feminine hairstyle at your current length, which is perfectly fine.

I'm not saying you couldn't benefit from FFS - the big thing would be to reduce the squareness of your jaw - but if your efforts to pass are counterproductive, then the first thing to do is adapt them to suit you better.

With the pics you posted, you could probably pass with no makeup. If you want to wear it, wear it very light - foundation of translucent mineral powder, a dusting of powder blush or bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks, and a very thin layer of gold or bronze eyeshadow. And try a lip gloss (maybe one with a caramel tint) instead of lipstick. Or if you want to use lipstick, try a darker berry-, burgundy-, or plum-coloured shade. Pastels, especially pinks, aren't right for your complexion.

Hmm, even though others do I don't see a problem with your jaw. I've seen lots of women who look like you. Maybe it's just my area.
