Coming out of lurkey mode finally.
Any tips for such? Any things you guys tend to gravitate toward? I'm looking mostly for things I can just make, but any advice would be a help. Kind of tired of the same old thin black bracelet and about to break and give up the ghost necklace I have. I'm pretty crafty so if you have any projects or links you want to post, that would be fantastic. I've read a few sites that discuss tips, but I was wondering more about personal opinion.
I have big hands and wrists, so large/chunky style watches and rings don't make my hands look tiny and feminine.
Don't know what else to say, but thanks in advance,
Rowan.
a) A Rolex
b) College type ring
c) wedding band
after that, pretty much nothing. And even then...
All the men in my family (and me) wear a plain gold chain, usually from Elizabeth Duke's.
It's all personal opinion and taste.
I wear a stainless steel Seiko automatic divers-style watch. It's only low-end, but a nice everyday watch - suitable to wear with anything and not too gaudy.
Stainless steel watches look very masculine in my opinion. Hard to go wrong with those. Just don't go for anything too colourful.
I also wear a SIMM on a short black chain (I'm not sure what you'd call the chain style... it's the sort of thing you see army dog tags on), though that is a sentimental thing.
In my opinion, less is more. Less items, less complexity, less details and less colours.
Steer clear of colourful curvy rounded plastic things and you should be right.

It's called a ball-chain. As it's a chain made of balls. How can you really get more masculine than that? lol
I think I'm safe from colorful/curvy/plastic thingies. One, because my favorite colors are grey, blue-grey, gunmetal, and black. Two, they don't make jewelry like that to fit my huge wrists. In fact, buying already made leather cuff style thingies looks like it's going to be an issue for me. I'm finding that for the most part they fit around an 8" wrist at the biggest. Mine's about eight right at the thinnest part, but soon after goes up to over 9". What a pain in the rear. I may end up having a leather worker friend of mine make me something ultra simple.
All I wear is a watch. If I can even remember where I put it, that is.
Besides what tekla said, I'd add cufflinks and a tie clip to the list. Of course, that's for formal events (and if you think you can pull it off without looking like an idiot).
If you're younger, you can get away with a little more than that. But just barely. Of course, that's just my personal preference. I don't like jewelry on men or women, so..take from that what you will.
If you wear French cuffs, get a few nice pairs of cufflinks. Or hunt resale shops for vintage ones. I don't know if you can make your own.
Tie bars, chains, and pins aren't particularly in fashion right now (although tie pins and tie bar teeth damage the fabric, so watch for that), but some guys wear them. An unusual tie clip can be a nice personal statement. When I was wearing ties to work, I kept waiting for tie bars to come back into favor. I finally just started wearing what I wanted, fashion be damned. Although I was never outside for long, I hated having my tie flap in the breeze on a windy day.
Some men can get away with a nice chunky bracelet. ID bracelets can work.
I carry vintage pocket watches. Each watch has a carefully matched chain and fob. It was fun finding the right combinations.
My father wears a black onyx ring that I always wanted to inherit. I was deeply disappointed as a child when I found out that my brother would inherit all sorts of cool things from my father and I would get nothing. I particularly wanted his dress sword, his ring, and his Rolex. The sword was stolen by movers some years ago, but I assume that he still has the ring and the watch.
The ring is too chunky for my small hands, I no longer wear wrist watches, and I have my own Rolex now. But I still want his ring and watch. Go figure.

just a couple thin "friendship" style bracelets are cool
hemp necklaces/that variety of necklace hemp or not are cool

and hello fellow Rowan!
Oh, my paws and whiskers! I'll be late!

Camp guys wear tons of jewellery of either gender there perfectly male.
alpha macho male styles which I presume your going for you can wear rings either a band of some sort they can have a central stone but you have to be careful with how it's cut it's usually flush with a thick band, watches are popular, Leather bracelets, an earring but usually in just the one ear but studs in both work, cuff-links, chains are fashionable, I have a friend who has a pocket watch (eccentric), You can get away with something around your neck. Usually a leather string with some beads or ornate shape or something on them (Sharks tooth :P) it's also okay to have a small gold or silver chain around your neck. if your a guy with longer hair you can have hair ties on your wrists not unusual. Religious symbols are of course free.
I wear a wedding band, watch (usually a durable one of some kind), and cuff links when they are needed for the dress shirt I am wearing. I have an office job daily wear is a button up shirt, nice pants (jeans only on Friday) and dress shoes. No tie needed as long as the shirt is nice. Tshirts, tennis shoes and jeans will not work. I tend to wear jewelery according to what goes with the work dress code.

Eeek! NTY on the macho male styles. I'm not exactly macho. I'm a belly dance instructor. lol I like leather bracelets quite a lot, but am either going to have to make it myself, or have it made. Silly giant wrists/forearms. I think a metal watch would be nice to wear, but I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot not to be allergic to it. My ears are stretched to 11mm so, ear jewelry is well taken care of with a collection of stainless grommets, black glass, stone, and bone.
I've got a nice fossil watch with a leather cuff (bout an inch wide). I wear that and a claddagh ring. Sometimes I'll wear a silver/white gold looking chain on my neck. I've got 00g plugs (stainless steel or silicone) that I wear which I forgot about. I was thinking about getting a titanium ring.
Oh, and grillz. I might be getting a hot grill soon, but I don't think too many people can pull that off.
In reality most of the guys (and girls) I know wear none. Certainly nothing on the wrists, fingers or around the neck where they can get caught on stuff that is moving. I have both of my ears done and will vary the studs or dangling stuff depending on the kind of show I'm at. But my watch (very cheap Casio) hangs from my belt or is in my pocket, if I have it - I tend to use my phone for the time most of the time. No rings. Nothing around my neck (I even keep my laminates in my pocket with the lanyard around the belt), nothing around my wrists. Even if you're not working with heavy/electrical equipment, they still leave tan lines, and that's just wrong.
How about those big square men rings? They're awesome. if I didn't have these damn tiny hands, I would be all over them! I used to stare longingly at them in the glass cabinet at drugs stores while shopping for mens cologne.
Oh! and a pocket watch. is that actually jewelry? ..who cares! they're great. lol

I had a pocket watch during most of jr. high. Back when they were still showing old Dr. Who reruns on PBS and I was obsessed. It was fantastic, and gave me something pleasant to think of every time I checked the time. Strangely enough that was an inner city school and a very scary place to be, but the thing didn't get stolen until I went to High School in the burbs.

how ironic! i love them. they are so masculine to me, for reasons I can't begin to explain. I'm not a big dr. who fan, but I love british comedy, so I feel yuh. :) What kind was it?
Honestly I don't know. My father gave it to me instead of my brother, which I thought was really sweet. Needless to say I was beyond pissed when it was taken. I'm sure there's some pawn shop out there with a really nice antique pocket watch that has something stupid like "Silverchair rocks!" scratched into the back of it.

that thought is most distrubing. like nails on a chalkboard.
I lost the one I had, myself. I feel your pain.

I'm not up on Dr. Who. Can you explain the connection? Did Dr. Who carry a PW?
I went a little nuts while I was studying for my quals. I got four big IRS refunds that year (three were for back years), and I spent a good deal of that money on a pocket watch now and then. Kept me sane. But now I have all of these watches, some of which need repairs that I cannot afford and can't do myself. I wanted to learn, but my hands were so dorked up that I didn't see the point. So I merely collected. Only about half of them actually run AND keep decent time.
I even have a little ladies' watch from the 1920s or 1930s. Tiny little thing, and very cute. I've never carried it, though.
You know, you can get a modern PW for very little money...
That would be the connection, yes. If you look up Dr. Who fob watch explanation I'm sure it'll give a much more eloquent explanation than I'm capable of.
Don't remember a fob in the classic series though, but the newer ones have a watch that can hold a time lord's personality.

Are they really big watches, like our buddy old Flavor Flav (who always gets a pass from me, he was in Public Enemy, that so rocked all else is forgiven) or just he just have a very tiny personality?
He has a lot of personality - it can just be really, really squished.

Ah, the neutronium variety. (Wow, I can't believe that the spell checker flagged "neutronium.")
For years, I've been meaning to check out Dr. Who. Now that I live a couple of miles from a video store that has the whole series, I suppose there's no excuse anymore.
When you say the whole series...what do you mean? Cos the show has been running nearly 50 years.
Someone once said about Doctor Who, "Doctor Who is like sex; even when it is bad, it is good. And when it is good...WOW!"

But not continuously. I've read that there have been a couple of breaks in there, once for more than a decade. That's true, isn't it?
I haven't verified what she said, but the gal I talked to said that they had DVD sets starting from the show's inception back in the 1960s. I've been in the sf section, and they have a huge row of Dr. Who. I just don't know enough about the show to be sure that it's complete.
I'm thinking that I'll probably get started on that this summer. I understand that the old epis are free online now. I would just rather watch on my TV than my computer. I have a large monitor, but it doesn't compare with the TV.
Me? Hijack? I didn't hijack any thread!!!!!!!!
Er, do men ever wear anklets?
^ i've never seen it... doesn't mean it can't happen.

Unless you have girly wrists, in which case they look stupid
[actualy they look stupid in general...]
Normally I've got a thick ish studded cuff (or 2) clickie. (http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy183/InsanityLive4ever/100_4322.jpg)
and a stainless steel ring [no pics... but if you know the stuff they sell at walmart].
Sometimes small stud earrings [less so since the holes finally healed properly]
IDK, a lot of jewerly is really fem ish if you don't pass well IMO.

Only ever saw the surfer type boys wearing things like hemp type ankle jewelry. Though I think to pull it off you need some slightly less shapely legs than I have... with substantially more fur. Hell I've not shaved the legs in about 10 years but I'm not on T so the fur I do have is thin and almost invisible since I'm blond. Have to hold my arm up to the light juuuuuuuust right to see my arm hair even. Boo.
anyone who likes Dr. Who should watch "Fry and Laurie".
It's one of the best British comedy shows ever.
And ironically it has the actor who plays Dr. House in "House". Only he's way better in the former.
funny show but where is the jewelry part?
wheres the Dr Who part?

yes, it is off topic. i hoped that would be semi-acceptable as only a link. not so much, with a giant video. lol

I grew up with him as Jeeves in Jeeves and Wooster - means I can never watch House.
Okay, someone seriously has to start a British comedy thread. I nominate Pica for the task. But only if she/he/ze/zie/sie/se is wearing a nice anklet.
P.S. Is there a thread about androgyne pronoun preferences, or should I start one myself?
I dont really wear much jewely. I wear a bracelt sometimes its thick and white...i dont know how to describe it, kind of like rope haha and i wear diamond earrings everyday. Some people might say that isn't masculine but its me. I personally wear what I like because really thats what matters
Okay, so this I can talk about Man Jewelry, or as My friend coined it, Man-ery, I think really varries on style. I wear alot of leather corded things, Stud bracelets, crosses and the like. The more thin something is the more delicate it looks. Most guys I know both cisgender and trans wear stuff on the thicker side, made of metal, leather, or bone (i.e. shark Teeth).
