Yeah but so do I - that is the actual "measurement" - not my size - I also have to add the extar inchhes so my "size" is 40 inches

I'm a 40FF

Um, I think last time I measured I was 33-34 inches. I wear size 36 or 34... depends on the bra. Half the time I don't wear one. I need some more. The 36 band size I have now is on the smallest it can go, and it's still a bit loose. I find the material the band is made of and also the brand depends on what I get. I always try the bra on before I buy it. My cup size is usually B, but sometimes A, again, depending on how it's made and the brand.

I don't get or understand where ppl measure their chest and then add five -- that's way too big for me! That would be something like 38? Every 38 I've tried doesn't fit me and is way too loose.

born female and this site is first place I ever heard of the +5 thing.

36 here also, +5 would be 41 which would be way too large. back when I did where one I wore a 38b or 36c. I wish I knew where this +5 crap came from.

It actually comes from some of the size calculator sites.

I am actually finding that since I've been training 40FF is too big around the band so I'm thinking of changing to a 38 but in which case the cup size will have to increase to G I guess

If all thes formula are wrong then does anyone know how to assess correctly what my size should be under bust measures  36inches (well actually almost 37 for comfort ) and my overbust is a very full 48 inches - HOW do you calculate the correct size ?

The + 5 thing is actually where you start to figure out your cup size... it shouldnt figure into band size.  34+5=39. bust size - 39 =x= cupsize.  as in 34+9=39. 40-39=1in= either A or B cup.

Well my rib cage measures 30in, but I can't even get into a 30A. I go with 36 or 38 (I like breathing room as well, thank you very much.)

well I learned a much different way and it works.

Measure just under and measure across the nipples (or widest part)

the first number is the band  the difference of the two determines the cup size.

I'd have to dig out the chart that tells what number means what cup size tho.

Ah - so then I should be wearing a 38 G! (as they don't do 37)

OMG - 38G - that is just unbelievable.

Yes I know I've been on HRT for 30 years but that is just too HUGE for someone like me to achieve without silcone, and I swear I've never touched the stuff!

That's what I thought as well, Kat.

And the difference is one inch per cup.  It always seemed pretty easy to me.

I've heard about the +5 thing and thought that the added size was to allow for the elastic portion of the bra, though I never knew for sure.  I figured that the base size was at the farthest set of hooks in the bra so that was the tightest of the band and the last set of hooks was at the +5 setting.

Glad I'm not just imagining learning it this way. I never seen a bra with 5 inches of give in the hooks. 2 inches maybe.

I tried the +5 thing.... a 40in bra doesnt even grab... but bra manufacturers dont have a standard of any kind... every brand and type is diffrent...

Oh and FYI a 34b and a 36a have the same volume....

In theory. Brands differ so do ideas of what is what size. so that rule is only sometimes true.

Haven't measured recently, and I basically never wear a bra. Hate the damned things, no matter how comfortable they're designed to be.

all these is so confusing...can someone tell me what 75/86cm actual measurement translates to in size bra?

My underbust is like 32 inches, but my bust is 37.5 inches, so that plus 5 thing is pretty close for me, although I think that theory would get blown out of water if I get breast augmentation.

milktea

divide those numbers by 2.54 to get inches.

my trusty calculator says 30/34

my old methods of figuring seem to have been replaced by a method that I don't get so I will leave that to someone else
