I already posted this query in MtF Talk, but I hope to good more answers from the bigger group.
I bought a great 2-piece swimsuit from a catalog. The top fits like a dream, but the bottom is too big. What's the chances I can safely shrink that bottom in the dryer?
It's a nylon bikini bottom with a spandex bikini inside (Newport News Shape FX line). The spandex is sewn to the nylon only at the seams. What do you think will happen if I soak the bottoms and put them in a hot dryer. You think I can shrink the garment a size or two without ruining it?
Never had too much luck in shrinking stuff (clothes that is), can't you send it back and get a size smaller?
The old way was to wash in boiling water then hot dry in a clothes dryer. Last time I tried this with nylon absolutely no affect at all.
Wool no problem went from a size 18 (aus) to a size two, would fit a baby ::) ::)

No, they don't sell the top and bottom separately.
And I did some research, and the prognosis is not good. I found one site that said it would work, and several that said trying it would ruin the garment
Well
Nothing ventured nothing gained. If it doesn't fit now I doubt that you will want to grow into it
You could try a seamstress shop but is it worth it?
OK give it a boil
Cindy - no responsibility taken
LOL@boil.
It fits ok now, it just could fit better. And the way it's constructed, I can't see how it could be altered.
I've seen the nylon spandex thing ruined by hot dryers. Can you just make a seam in each side to 'shrink' it?
I would recommend taking it to a seamstress. I don't know if it would shrink without ruining it.
If you sew, put it on inside out, pin it on the sides and sew to the pins. remove excess if needed and zig zag the hew down.
Can't you buy a smaller size set and then mix/match the halves?
I kinda thought Nylon in the dryer was at risk of melting...
